Siege a Planet

I spent several hours watching DasTactic (who is great) on Youtube.  In his last episode he had a Siege ship in his fleet and when he approached a Drengin world, it said he did not have enough POWER, or something like that despite having the Siege ship.  He was confused as was I.  Based on so many other games, I assumed that if you had any amount of 'Siege Strength' you could siege, but it would take a long time.  Can anyone clarify this when they have time.  I am going to buy GalCiv4 this afternoon and I would like to have an understanding of that part of the game.  Thank you in advance.

Just bought it too, so it's mostly conjecture on my behalf, but apparently Sieges can take many turns, so there could be a starbase/Military Base nearby,  high planetary Defences, more ships than your Siege ships can outperform and get to the planet, or any combo of those. That's my understanding how it happens. That might change when I make my first siege ship in game though. The tutorial might explain as well.

Hello Led! Sieges are based on the comparison of the siege power (Siege ships and the like) as compared to the planetary defenses (upgrades and ships positioned on planet to defend)

If the invasion will take more than 10 turns, you can't invade. You divide the planet defense rating by the siege rating of the fleet to determine the number of turns to invade. I usually invade core worlds with 2 troop transports for speedy results. You might get similar results with 4-6 siege ships.
