Just bought Supernova - some observations

I am an old GC3 player. I also bought the first edition of GC4, when it was offered.

I just got the discount to buy Supernova. I like it so far, but I have the following observations:

I am played large sectors, with a few sectors. I have myself and 7 AI players. I set the AI players to Distant. However, I see two AI players within three systems of me. Is this just bad luck or is the initial spacing of players not working?

When designing a small Frigate class, I have 8 mass points. If I build 4 x Avenger Missiles, (with an attack of 2 for each), for 8 mass, my missile attack is only 4. If I build 2 x Avenger Missiles, for 4 mass, my missile attack is only 3. Is this correct?

I am now on Turn 37. I have yet had the tech pick to to able to build Survey Ships. In the first GC4, I could alway pay a tech cost penalty to keep finding critical techs. I do have about 15 additional techs available, but the Survey Ship one has never come up.

I have a friend with whom I used to play MP on the original GC4., When will this capability be added to Supernova?

Thanks

Welcome to Supernova! Yah, that discount is awesome. Feel free to leave a positive Steam review if you end up liking the game. Every positive review helps a ton.

To answer a couple of your questions, starting with the last one, Multiplayer is suppose to be coming in next week patch, so very soon.

As of today there is no tech to be able to build survey ships; there has been talks of adding it as a late game tech though. In the mean time, you can get Survey Ships/Flag Ship through events or with your commander ships or through anomalies (you can get a charge that let you convert any of your ship into a Survey Ships).

About your starting placement, it's kind of random and a lot of people have been baffle with some of the results. Others would be better then I at explaining what's up with it. Short answer: bad luck. In case you didn't know, you can use the CRT-N right after starting a new game if you don't like what it gave you and it'll regenerate a new map on the fly (you can see the number of other AI players in your sector by the colours in the ring around the sector (zoom out to see it)).

As for Avenger Missiles, I know some of the starting weapons have some strange numbers attached to them, so I'm not sure what's up with the discrepancy between the weapon tooltip and the final damage number you see. Unless you are mistaking Combat Rating with the actually Weapon damage ? The final weapon damage can be seen in the Combat Rating Tooltip; just hover your mouse on it and you'll see the detail of your damage and defence which contribute to the final combat rating.

Hope this helps a little.

Thanks for that prompt reply, Draver.

I would like to see a few more Survey Ships available as I only have one, by turn 36.

The game does appear to allow you to put Flag survey modules on any ship design, but you are only allowed one such module per player. Perhaps increase this limit to 3?

In my example, my Combat Rating is 3, but my Kinetic Attack is 4.

I see that the Combat Rating factors in weapon power, range, hit points and defense.

As long as the Kinetic Attack of 4 is being used in combat calculations, I am happy.

I hope that we will be allowed to use Custom Civilizations in MP games, eventually.

GalCIv 4 has been in early access and they have had many design iterations on Survey ships. Early on you could build them, then they limited it to one + commander ships, now you can also add more using an artifact and even more commander ships are now survey ships, and in the future build in the Dev Journal you will have a late game tech to build more.

Combat Rating is a bit bugged you can hold shift and then hover over the combat rating to get a breakdown. It's well known issue but they are going to finish updating the combat system before they fix it.

Regarding MP I believe you'll be able to do custom civs but we'll have to wait and see until they release MP.
