Training Citizens Under 1.60.388302

I don't know if this is new under 1.60.388302 or if I just noticed it now, but it now takes 5 Control to train a citizen.  The game assigns a skill to each citizen as they are created and I frequently want to train them to a different skill.  I have been able to do this quite freely in the past, but today I was not able to train a citizen and I realized that the reason was that I was out of Control (literally, not figuratively!).

Is this something new under 1.60.388302?

If it is, I strongly suggest that you either get rid of it or reduce the cost to 1 or 2 control.  The reasons for my suggestion are:

  1. You generally only earn 2 Control per turn meaning, if you did nothing else that requires Control, you would only be able to train 1 citizen per month.
  2. The game assigns skills to new citizens and generally does a very poor job of it given the point values the citizen has for Intelligence, Social, Diligence, and Resolve.  This means players probably will want to train more than 1 citizen per month.

I did not figure out that training citizens required Control until I completely used up all of my control and was unable to train a citizen.  The screen snapshot below shows what it looked like.

Paul - It was a new feature added in 1.60 https://www.galciv4.com/article/520697/v16-insider-build-only-changelog---galactic-civilizations-iv-supernova.  I agree with you that 5 control is way too much.  1 would have been plenty.

One would be plenty if the game was smarter about how it initially trained them. I don't need a barren world producing multiple farmers or a world with 96% approval producing multiple entertainers. I have better uses for control than fixing the AI's mistakes.

Hey guys, thank you for sharing opinion and game experience on the new system. It is for sure a different approach and we value all those detailed messages. They help us shape the game!

It doesn't charge you for the initial retrain, at least it didn't on my homeworld, but it starts charging for every retrain after that.  So when you get the ability to train scientists you'd want to know who you already retrained, but I don't see anything to do that.

Here is a screen snapshot showing a new citizen that was assigned to the farmer role by the game.  It also shows that it will cost control to train him to be a scientist.  This proves that there is no such thing as a free lunch training.

Whoops, bad screen snapshot.  Here is a better one.

I guess it's just training as worker that has no cost.

I just noticed that it now costs 5 control to load a citizen on a constructor.  What are you trying to accomplish with these changes?  Slow down the expansion at the start of the game?  There wasn't enough control to use Executive commands as it was.  Did you add some source of control points that we're not aware of?  This change needs to go in the trash bin asap IMHO.

It was changed to help the AI as it helps no player what so ever, Changes this radical should be deposited on the ashbin of history.

Sure it was thought that every player of the game would wish for the influence conquest of the nearby AI in stead of "doing it ourselves". I on the other hand want to eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate not what ever this game is becoming. Culture and Control if they keep going the way they are destroying the 4Xs in this game they might as well convert it to a RTS or an FPS as it is fast losing its status as a Strategy game.

If you cannot afford to mine resources it kills the building and exploitation part of the game.

Either ONE control point or One Citizen per colonyship/constructor not both and not more than one.

The thing I hate most is this turning this game into a minimaxing hell, play every game the same old way every time or not survive.

Many of us play to have fun pass the time and up till the last two patches 1.55 and 1.60. it was.

Brad, love the game and will still be playing for the moment but this trend away from what made this game FUN in the first 4 versions 5 if you count the Epic release of GC4 is killing my ability to have fun playing GC.

Hope you and the other Devs take this to heart I would hate to lose this game to play it would leave me with only Victoria; Revolutions to play.
