Some issues for 1.5 and 1.6

A couple of minor issues that have arisen in the latest 1.55 and 1.6 versions of the game:

1.   You can freely reassign leaders as Ministers (which is great) but not Governors (why?), if I want to take an existing Governor of a small(ish) world and 'promote' them to my newly founded fantastic world which has better stats, then I have to take the hit on loyalty that comes from sacking them from their current Governorship. Would be nice if it worked the same way as Ministers in that moving them between planets didn't incur the loyalty penalty. Could be based on perceived value of planets e.g. highlight planets seen as a flat move (which wouldn't incur a loyalty penalty), those seen as a promotion (which could include a small loyalty increase) and those seen as a demotion (that would incur a loyalty penalty).

2.   Trying to change military Commanders is likewise a real pain as all the ship reverts to being a level zero ship. All experience of the crew and all the extra components you have added are all removed. This should work similar to point 1 above. e.g. moving that Commander from your initial Frigate to that new Cruiser should (maybe) give a small loyalty bonus to the Commander but should definitely leave the ship untouched for its next Commander - especially if it is all being done at the same time.

3.    Military Starbases no longer show which planets are being covered by their area of effect. Economic ones still do. A minor point but irritating when the Drengin sneak in and nab a colony you thought was covered.

4.      You can no longer modify freighters and non-combat ships without having to add weapons. e.g. If you just want to add engines to make them go faster. You get an error saying that at least one weapon must be added before saving. Adding a weapon works but is additional cost. You can however, design a new one from scratch, so a minor irritant only.

5.      I think this is reported elsewhere but the Terran tech tree seems broken and you can no longer progress beyond Cruisers in 1.6 version.

Thanks for the ongoing Development, looking to be a great game and hope these help.

Hey, thank you for sharing with this detailed feedback!

The loyalty penalty for governors or commanders is somewhat different to reassigning a minister. A minister just "changes" a cabinet within your government, while a governor would need to take a long flight, and major readjustments to the new planet. Same applies to a commander.

But of course there is room for complexity and this is why feedback from our fans is so valuable to us!

Military starbases no longer protect planets from invasion.

Thanks for this. I still think that promotions for leaders shouldn’t incur a loyalty hit.

likewise, the ship itself shouldn’t suffer from the captain being reassigned. Currently it’s like having a zUS carrier such as the the Nimitz throw all the F-18s and F-35s overboard and go back to Phantoms and F-14s every time the Captain changes -which makes no sense to me.

Ah, I’d missed that, thanks for clarifying.

Can I add my bug list/ notes here?  I have screenshots for all of these

1) beam volley tooltip sometimes says missile volley and vice versa

2) I don't know what triggered it, but I now have a mysterious "component" in my support tab in the ship designer, and if I mouse over it, it has no description.  However doing that causes most other components to have their tool tips turn to gibberish until I restart the game.

3) My ships' health bars show that they are badly damaged in the combat viewer even though they have full hp.  This is a progressive thing: they appear more damaged the more battles they are in.  Similarly, they smoke and show damage when clicked on from the main map (this used to be a problem I remember in GC2)

4) In the factions tab under the leaders section, all descriptions feature some version of this sentence: "food to all our worlds to all their worlds"

5) In the leader section, if you click on an assigned leader card, the buttons for what you can do with them are drawn on top of the neighboring card.

6) I don't have a screenshot for this, but sometimes the descriptions of citizens in the boarding screen are unreadable because it's drawn on top of the top of the window.

Also, is there a way to design parts and save them in the ship designer like in GC3?  That would be a huge help.

Really liking the game so far.  This is all in the 1.5 version, I'm not in the 1.6 playtest.  Thanks!

Hello have you continued to notice these issues after the most recent insider build update?

I didn't realize I could just start the 1.6 version but now I'm playing the crap out of it and I'll keep you posted.  So far I have not seen any bugs. :)

Edit: as soon as I post this I noticed the damage issue is still here.  My ship repaired itself fully before the next battle but is on fire with a half-full health bar.  Just FYI

I noticed a leader suddenly acquire the "bad with money" trait when I recruited him.  I hadn't seen them change before.

When you're done researching a tech and have to choose a new one, if you go to tech navigator, it's all 0s for all the techs until you exit the research screen and reenter it.

If you don't have enough trade licenses and command a freighter to go to another civ's planet, the freighter will just forget his orders at the start of the next turn.  I didn't understand why it was happening until the freighter got to the planet (making him move manually each turn) and the game told me it why it couldn't make a new trade route.  Just seemed confusing.

Will we get the option to have more than one planet support a shipyard/ unanchor and move shipyards?

After testing V.1.6.Insider build there are a number of Fixes and feature's from V.1.55 that are still problematic ie ship designer build queue a very slow process to enter and construct ships and to reenter the planet field,Cosmetic Pieces - irradiated_Drone_01_Name and also Slyne Energy ball crashes the game to desktop I have also found that going back into the V.1.55 Beta i can no longer play my saved games but i could before the last update....

I assure you I've seen your report. It was noted in the changelog that saves after v1.55 are not compatible with future versions, however we have created a branch to switch between them

Something else I noticed in 1.6: if you rush an improvement on a planet, the tooltip will say "rush [whatever is first in the queue]" regardless of what you're actually rushing.  It will really rush build the thing you select, not the first queue item though.  If that makes sense.

Also, I don't think the Kinetic Weapon artifact in works.  I apply it to a ship and it just disappears without adding anything or doing the sparkly artifact activation effect.
