If you want to do a shell replacement you should go for litestep.... Personaly I shouldn't do this because it already messed up my pc twice.
Take windowblinds to skins windows startmenu/windows etc. , then take cursor XP for the arrow, take iconpackager for the icons and desktop X for the rest of your pc

But that would mean 5 more programs running in the background. And that can't be good.

, windowblinds dasn't slow down your pc, neither do the other ones.... btw, what is the diffrence between 5 small programs and 1 big?

Farkad, first, if you're that concerned about CPU/memory, ObjectDock is the worst of the bunch. Although very cool, of all the programs here, it's probably the one that sucks the most juice.
Second, again, if you're that concerned about CPU/memory, then maybe you should just stick with the WIndows default. While the applications (Windowblinds, DesktopX, etc.) themselves don't require much resources, the added graphics will invariably require more memory. Note that the fancier the themes, the more memory they'll require.

I don't use CursorXP anymore. I've noticed that that CPU usage makes a jump when I move the cursor while using it. Enough that it slows down other programs (such as PowerDVD).

I'm not using CursorXP at the moment, and the CPU usage jumps just the same.

It always amazes me how people always worry about CPU usage and how things slow their computers down. Just how much of a hurry are people nowdays where 1/2 second will kill them.I come in and turn my machine on and go get me a cup of coffee. When I get back the puter is up.Seems like everyone is in a big hurry. I have a 56k dialup and that is slow. Makes my computer seem really fast switching between apps.Instant coffee, Microwaves, fast food and now 1/2 sec. is to slow on the computer.HUM.I'll just continue to run everything and enjoy it and the heck with that loss of a 1/2 sec or even 2 sec.

hehe... yeah WOM, I agree, which was my point about the cursor............... if you don't want your mouse to use CPU time, don't move it. 

Icon Packager just replaces the icons, and it has no TSR, therefore it doesn't slow the computer. The best thing about Windowblinds is that it doesn't replace your shell and make your system more unstable.

I have a PIII 750 with 384MB Ram and I run WB, CursorXP, NAV, NPF, Quicknotes, and a quite a few other programs loaded during bootup and I run PowerDVD all the time. In fact, I watched Pirates Of The Caribbean a couple of nights ago without a problem. I play Computer games like Quake III with this configuration without a problem too. I depends on how you tweak, clean and maintain your machine.

I found that i had to turn off desktopx and objectbar because they interfered with the fullscreen powerdvd and fullscreen games. Its mostly those pretty little snowflakes falling down my screen. now if it would just snow outside i won't have to watch them and wish.

As others said, I'd stay away from Litestep, though it's the only total shell replacement program I believe.

Let's see, I use ObjectDock, Windowblinds, DesktopX, and ObjectBar for my desktop "redesign". (Can see it on my profile if you wish). They take up a grand total of 27M of RAM, and I could get that number down if I didn't have so many strings of Frogboys Christmas lights running. Oh, and everything is taking up a whole 1% of CPU....

So yeah, go for ObjectDesktop, it's a steal.

Using CursorXP uses more CPU than not using it on my machine. It just seems to add a certain 'jerkiness' to some of the apps I use regularly. I'm running a 2 gig Athlon, so I don't think a slow computer is the problem. It's pretty, but not worth the performance hit, imo. I rely on the little pop-up hint thingies a lot (especially when I'm using CAD), and the cursors that are big enough to look really sweet seem to cover them up, for some reason. Cursors that are small enough to not interfere are so small that the visual difference is minor, so I'm happy enough.

I just wanted to add that even though CPU and memory usage is a concern, it's not because I have a slow computer. I have a 2.4 HT pc, though only with 256k ddram.
The reason I don't want too many programs running is because I already have alot of them running, and most are eating that CPU up. Programs like DScaler(TV), lits of IE windows, an occasional emulator, and so on and so forth.

Anyways, thanks for yout suggestions. I'll give ObjectDesktop a try.

its your ram. i have 512megs( i hope you mean 256megs. my 386 has 612k ram alot more then your 256k and its 12 yrs old). I notice a slight slowdown, but that is because the more ram you have the more windows takes. My processor is 2.4 also and cursorxp seems to be inconsequential to the major memory hogs Objectdock and desktopx. I would just suggest to go buy 256 or more ram, its cheap.

Woo hoo! A gig of Corsair DDR400 for me! Man, that cost so much at Monarch Computer. But, now I can turn off the pagefile and we add some speed. RAM is what makes the world go round.

and in my room, i have an 866mhz p3 with something like 700mb ram, it runs just as good as the 3.0 ghz viao that has 512
