This is something that I believe I have reported before, but it is REALLY annoying me in my current game so I am creating another thread for it.
One of the tactics that I like to use is to surround a Subspace Gate with fleets of ships, as shown in the first screen snapshot below. This usually results in a stack of ships and fleets piled-up on the Subspace Gate. The second screen snapshot shows an example where there are 47 (yes 47!) ships and fleets stacked-up on the Subspace Gate. The third screen snapshot shows that these are a mixture of ships and fleets from multiple civilizations.
Here is the problem: I cannot choose which of the ships or fleets I want to attack. Instead, the game selects who I am attacking and it seems to always choose a ship from a civilization I am not at war with, as shown in the fourth screen snapshot below. What I want to do is attack the Altarian fleets that are sitting there waiting for me to destroy them, but I cannot!
A similar problem occurs when a civilization with which I am at war has multiple ships and fleets stacked in one cell. When I attack them, the game chooses which ship or fleet I am attacking. I believe the attacking player should be able to choose what they are attacking.
Hopefully, you will agree that the attacking player should get to choose what they are attacking and, if so, make the necessary modifications to the code to implement this change quickly.
