Mimots

Maybe OP?

I started another playthrough, and I choose the Mimot, since they were the weirdest one I could think of.  I did know a bit more going into this run, but....as you can see from the summary at turn 181, the Mimots might just be a tad overpowered.   I mean, double ships?   I did not think that this would happen.   Nothing unusual seemed to happen during this rofl-stomp, I mean game, so...maybe double ships is a bit much.  Just saying.

I'm currently in the middle of a Mimot and I agree the double ship bonus gets out of hand fast.  Interesting note if you build any of the unique ships they also get doubled!

I am trying to think of how to save this mechanic while slowing it down.  Perhaps by strongly nerfing research...so they could still build a lot of ships but they wouldn't be state of the art.  Either that or nerf mimot construction.  But that would wind up being the same thing...half as much production for double ships would be much too harsh, as it would hammer every other type of production.

Ya I had heard somebody mention Mimots were way over-powered a while back on the boards. I thought maybe it was because of their fast breeding, but then I took a look at them when I was starting a new game. I noticed the double ships thing and I immediately thought "well that is absurd and will surely get nerfed", so I didn't even bother trying to play as them. Instead I tried finding other less absurd but still cheesy ways to get an edge. Then I noticed that on just "normal" difficulty, even as one of the AI opponents, they seemed to be running away with the game according to the power rankings (although I never actually came face to face with them in that game). So on the last game I started, I didn't include them as one of the AI controlled civs either.

maybe if it was just their tiny and small ships that doubled if wouldn't be so overpowered

Don't fear the Tribbles Mimot. They tend to overexpand and are easy pickings.

I don't fear the Mimots.  In games against them they were no threat.  Maybe I have just been lucky!

But AS the mimots....well....you saw the score.  That is scary, and may have already gone to my head.  For my next serious run, I will not be playing the mimots.   Which is also scary...I can see myself..."What?! I don't see the second colony ship!", etc.

Yor are also OP in player hands, and not so much in AI hands.  So far.

I don't know what difficulty level you were playing on. Every game I bump the difficulty up a notch. By the time the game releases, I expect to be playing at the highest level.

In the first or second game I played, I was wondering how they were able to send a constant stream of ships after me. I had a fleet parked outside the slipstream portal (with a supporting starbase) that would take them out but it was quite a war of attrition

Stardock has pretty good track record of improving the AI, a process which normally heats up toward the very end of development.  So I just use normal and see what happens.

Yeah balance, including the AI are nowhere near done. Fun thing is the Mimot are actually one of our programmers persoanl favs too.

Well, honestly mimots are my personal favorite.  But I won't allow myself to play them any more.  I would get very lazy.
