GC4 EA Feedback Test Branch | VERSION 0.70.274685

How To Handle Space Bugs

So you want to help us deal with space bugs huh? Well, there are plenty of them. Here we will give you some pointers on how to best help us.

Go to give feedback

  • You can also create your own unique threads and link them here. But include at least the basic details here!
  • Ensure the issue/feedback you are talking about is relevant to the VERSION NUMBER listed (See below for how)
  • Make sure all of your drivers are updated and verify the game files after every update before reporting an issue. This can often be the culprit.
  • If there is a bug that keeps repeating:
    • Include all steps you make to reproduce it.
    • Include any save games including auto saves.
    • Also please include debug.err files and pref.ini files as they can help with reproducing map generation or graphical errors.
    • When the crash dialogue appears ensure you put in an e-mail for our devs to follow up

How to tell which version you are on?

Likes:  the updated tech tree pushes back 1 government advancement, new techs in general are nice, especially the increase in ship modules.  Super smooth zoom in/out very nice.

Dislikes: late game no matter how much science you get you are limited to 1 tech/turn (perhaps this is a balance thing, which is ok, it just doesn't make sense otherwise).  Hostile units should be more noticeable, especially if zoomed out mid/far, perhaps a halo.

A comma is needed after the name.  This is in FlavorText_Old.xml.

slavestoday should be slaves today.  There is a strange character between the two words that isn’t showing in the game.  The character needs to be removed and replaced with a space.  This is in FlavorText.xml.

Sometimes I get a drone bay in my list of upgrades.  None of the anomalies I had investigated indicated I got it.  I checked the quest files and found the reason.  The first choice for the Pirate Scrap event (Quest_PirateScrap) gives a drone bay, but the text doesn’t mention it.  The event and text also show it gives 2 durantium, 2 modules and 2 nanobots, which it does.  Is the drone bay a leftover that should be removed?  Should the text be updated?

This is in QuestEventDefs.xml in Gameplay\Events.

New anomalies are spawning at the exact same places that previous anomalies existed.  If an anomaly is already there, I don’t know if the new one spawns on top of it or doesn’t spawn at all.  I don’t think it spawns somewhere else.

A scroll bar is needed to show all the text.

I have three suggestions for this screenshot for Opponent Settings

The yellow box shows Players.  My testing indicates it is Max Opponents, not Players, so Players should be changed to Opponents.

The cyan boxes outline what I think in wasted space.  I think that careful adjustment of the spacing will allow the Available Opponents section to be expanded to have three per row instead of two and the other section expanded to have five per row.  This will reduce the amount of scrolling needed to get to the bottom of the list.

Something else that would be useful is to have sorting and filtering in the Available Opponents section to make finding a specific opponent or type of opponent easier.  This will be useful once players start making new races and downloading races made by other players, which could result in a very long list.  Sorting could be by name, type, ability or other attributes.  This will still keep the list long, so filtering by the same attributes would reduce the list.  Maybe combing sorting and one or more filters could be done.

The current map size is way too small and predictable in layout.

Previously the second highest galaxy setting would give 30 sectors or so so there was plenty of space for 15 ai races and minors with a lot of empty sectors as well. Furthermore, the layout was random with hyperlanes going off in various directions.

Now everyone is clumped together in five or six sectors and they're all attached like pearls on a string so it's very predictable where all the other races are.

There is not enough space for the text.

The notification doesn't have enough space for the text.  The tool tip does.

The spacing can be improved for the summary near the bottom of the screen.  The Available Trade Licenses values need to be moved to the left to so there is more distance between them and the next text. The Total Weekly Revenue from Trade Routes: text can be moved further to the right.  There should still be enough space after it to allow for large values for revenue.  The number will probably be big late in a game with numerous trade routes to and from all the races.

Thanks.  I just verified that these got fixed.
