Pirate ship breaking its tether and chasing my probe all over the sector.
In GC4 pirate ships are “tethered” to their shipyard and can’t go too far from it. Shortly after loading a save in my current game in 0.60.208431a I saw a pirate ship that was well beyond its tether. It looked like it was chasing one of my automated probes, so I took control of my probe and began moving it to verify the pirate ship knew where my probe was at all times and would chase it anywhere in the sector.
I reloaded the save that I started from and used console commands to see what was happening. The pirate ship may or may not have been beyond its tether, but it was already chasing the probe, which wasn’t very far away.
The “chasing a ship wherever it goes without being able to see it” has existed since GalCiv2, so I’m not concerned about that. This is just a bug report about the pirate ship breaking its tether. The chasing comes “naturally” after the tether is broken.
To see this in action, load the save here. The probe, pirate ship (Sniper-49) and shipyard are located as shown in this screenshot.
Use the appropriate commands to see what is happening in the fow, play the game a few turns, and watch Sniper-49 chase the probe. After that, take control of the probe, and move it left to the far edge of the sector. Play more turns and watch Sniper-49 follow the probe all the way to the left side of the sector, which is far beyond its tether. Again, it’s Sniper-49 breaking the tether I’m reporting.
