GC4 EA Feedback Live Branch | VERSION 0.45.188724a

How To Handle Space Bugs

So you want to help us deal with space bugs huh? Well, there are plenty of them. Here we will give you some pointers on how to best help us.

Go to give feedback

  • You can also create your own unique threads and link them here. But include at least the basic details here!
  • Ensure the issue/feedback you are talking about is relevant to the VERSION NUMBER listed (See below for how)
  • Make sure all of your drivers are updated and verify the game files after every update before reporting an issue. This can often be the culprit.
  • If there is a bug that keeps repeating:
    • Include all steps you make to reproduce it.
    • Include any save games including auto saves.
    • Also please include debug.err files and pref.ini files as they can help with reproducing map generation or graphical errors.
    • When the crash dialogue appears ensure you put in an e-mail for our devs to follow up

How to tell which version you are on?

I like the new Ideology system, but it seems to take too long between getting a culture point to pick. In my Large galaxy game, it is now turn 141.

I have 5 cores and 23 colonies. Only two of these colonies were conquered.

I am favouring Opportunity - I now have 5 available traits to unlock.

I have only had two culture points to spend so far. Seems low to me.

OK, I numbered all of my Scout ships so I could track what was happening with Survey results that seem to be going to the wrong ship.

I just had a turn where 6 ships (in a row) found an item from a survey result that they could bring on board, and ALL of the ships did NOT get the item they were supposed to get, instead it looks like the NEXT ship to get a survey result got the item, and the 6th and last ship in the 6 ships was the Discovery and it did NOT get the Defensive System that I specialized to Field/ Shield. It got the Diablo Catalyst that the previous ship was supposed to get, and I think that none of my ships got the Defensive Field/Shield that the Discovery found.

So it seems to be a consistent bug, where when you have a ship pick up a piece of equipment in a survey result choice, that ship does NOT get the item, instead the next ship to get a survey result that turn gets the item.

So you should be able to verify this bug yourself easily with a game of your own. Please FIX this BUG. I have been noticing this problem for several games of 0.40, i.e. for several weeks, and it is still in 0.45.
End of williamameling's quote

You do know you do not get the system till you upgrade the ship/ fleet, then it is available as an upgrade option?

This is a problem that I also noticed in 0.4 as well as in 0.45. I thought it would have been noticed and fixed by now

If the main Map has more than 5 Icons on the lower right hand corner (just above end turn button) for items for you to choose to use, such as Chimeric Biomass, Barnal Sphere, Precursor Archive, etc.,  any Icons to the left of those 5 Icons can NOT be chosen (what you see with your tooltip is the Influence on the tile below the Icon rather than the item you might want to use), until you use up one of those 5 Icons and they shift to the right where they can be chosen.

At the time (in 0.45) that I posted this message I had Icons for 7 different things that I should have been able to choose to use, but the left 2 items could not be chosen.

I verified today, that when I choose one of those 5 that only had one of it (the Precursor Archive, in this particular case), then the Chimeric Biomass Icon shifted to the right and I was then able to choose and use it as well.

I would try to upgrade a ship and it would not have the items that I expected.

What I seem to be noticing, now that I know that I was looking wrong at it, is that the individual ships seem to get the extension matrix to be used by the ship to equip one of the other items in Race's list of items available to be used such as Drone Bays, Fields, weapons, slipstream, stealth, etc. Or the extension matrix could be used to upgrade that ship's hit points, speed, or sensor range.

I did not know (before last night) that experience level of the ship apparently affects how many upgrades you can do with that ship.

I will have to check to see if the right ship is getting the extension matrix, when I get it.

I can't figure out how 10%+10%+10%+3%-18.2% = 21.6%. Either it's a bug or a totally opaque methodology.

I took the ideology "Eureka" which says it grants an approval boost after discovering a new technology. I have researched a couple of new techs since then and cannot see in any tooltip where any approval bonus has been applied. I've checked the planetary approval tooltip and the tooltips for each citizen.

Visual problem for those subject to Ocular Migraines, need a way to turn off the cosmetic clouds on the map also darker hex lines. It was bad in 3 but really horrible in 4. It has almost gotten to the point of being game breaking for me.

I set up a huge map with three opponents and still get one in my starting sector. This too is a near game breaker for me. If I wanted to play a war game I would play on tiny maps. I however want to play a 4X game so the Alien Scum should be sectors away depending how many I choose to play. Huge map 4 Scum chosen several sectors away. Doesn't mean Minors can not be closer but, if I chose for them to be rare they too should be distant.

I know in 3 I could edit maps to my liking but, that solution is a monumental pain in the fourth point of contact.

I would like an option to fix my problem with the graphics.

I would like a set up option where I can choose opponents to be 1,2,or more sectors away with minors being say half that. Not talking about pirates, precursors, or space monsters ( although I think SMs are scientifically impossible) but the single planetary dwellers.

Suggestion: I had an interesting idea (actually 2 Ideas): A Specialist Citizen (NOT a Leader) (in two versions) who could Raise (or Lower) the Tax Rate of the World where it is located, to be different the Civilization wide Tax Rate.

You might call him a tax collector, or a customs agent, etc.

The tooltips for the Torian Academy, the Krynniac Altar, and the Manti Birthing Pool, all say "One per Planet" while they are in your pool of improvements to build, but then once built disappear from the pool like a "One per Player" improvement would. Since these all come from events the actual behavior seems correct and the tooltip wrong.

In addition, it's possible to queue them on multiple planets and construct more than one, so long as you add them to the build queue simultaneously.  Once the first is constructed, no more can be added, but those still in queues are constructed successfully, even if construction hasn't started.

So yes, something is definitely not working as intended here.

I used a Bernal Sphere to add a Yor citizen to Earth. It was created with 0 Intelligence, 0 Social, 0 Diligence, 0 Resolve, 0 Expectations, and 3% Crime. If I correctly understand how the citizen system works this is worse than not having him as a citizen at all.

Two questions, one a potential bug and one I may just be missing:

1.  Has anyone else gotten stuck because the game keeps treating a ship in a subspace stream as an idle ship?  I can't advance to the next turn because the "idle ship" button remains, and defaults to a ship in the subspace stream, but won't let me do anything with that ship.

2.  Is there a way to see the factors leading to the happiness of people on colonies?  With core worlds I can mouse over citizens but with colonies it seems like I can only get the final number.

Edit: Please ignore this. I finally realized I was confusing the military production with the military power. Of course it would have helped avoid my confusion if the "Military" label had been "Military Production" instead.

The diplomacy window shows the Mimots have the #1 military, and the summary window shows that I have the #2 military. For most of the game the timeline tab in the Civilization window showed the same, but the last couple of times I checked it shows me #1 by a significant margin, which I think is wrong since I haven't expanded my military enough to catch up. The strange thing is, the military and manufacturing timelines are almost identical, leading me to think that the military graph is getting its data from the wrong place.  Here's the military timeline:

And here's the manufacturing timeline:

Here's a link to the saved game.

On the same game I just posted about above, I'm on turn 164 and so far have gotten only two culture points (as results of missions). A couple of times I've had events pop up that said they would award a culture point, but none was awarded. And no, I'm not confusing ideology awareness points with culture points, I've had many more events award ideology awareness, the ones I'm talking about specifically said +1 culture.

Edit: To follow up, one of the events I had gotten was The Museum. The choices say that it grants both an ideology awareness point AND a culture point. I just got it again, and once again it did not give a culture point.

Update change log lead me to believe at most only one major opponent would be in my home sector.

I have at least two in latest scrapped game.

With only 6 "players" on a huge map I should not have major powers within three or four sectors.

This is totally game breaking for me, it ruins any fun I could possibly have playing this game as it forces me to eliminate one or more opponents in the first game year instead of exploring for centuries without running into alien scum. Ok should have written decades.

Good thing Humankind is launching in 23 days. When it does I can wait for the Map editor and hope it isn't the PITA that 2 and 3s is. Maybe a option in it to distance opponents, and limit minors to one per sector or less.

An example of how I like to play. In Civ 6 I play True Start Locations on the next to largest map, the programmers of C6 being incapable of making the largest map stable. I play Rome, with all my opps being from North or South America, put many city states but only Buenos Aries (sp) and Mexico City in the New World. I use the Yet not Another Map Mod.

I designed GC3 maps with opps in isolated corners of the Map because the opps freighters would beeline to my worlds no matter how far they were from me. With the new sector mech in 4 and the random techs this will not be as big a problem. However I would rather not have to spend time editing Maps when Map scripting can easily handle this. I am talking about an option to have the majors spawn farther away especially if I play Huge 5/6 Player configurations. If I decide to play with 64 majors I can live with their home planet being on Alpha Centauri.

It has happened to me when the ship did not have Infinite Range in one of my early 0.4 games where I did bot know anything about the the Subspace Stream and the Sector that it lead to, and the ship did not have the range to get to the other end. The ONLY "solution" that I could find was to DELETE (or destroy/decommission) the ship. So instead I just went back to the most recent saved game where that ship had not yet entered the Subspace Stream, and did NOT let go into it.

Later in the game when you have more range it can be possible for non Infinite Range ships to use Subspace Streams. But be very careful, you do NOT want to destroy your only copy of the Discovery with all of it's upgrades (which happened with me since Discovery was the ship that was stuck, and I could not even order to come back to the origin end).

Military Star Bases adding weapons and defenses to lots of tiny ships, including lots of Asteroid Miners, can badly distort the apparent military strengths of the various Races.

I know that I had at least one event (since it just happened to me) and possibly one or two other events in my 0.45 game that should have lead to me being able to chose an Ideology, but I did not get an Ideology because I did not get the Culture Point needed with the event. I am up to turn 114, i.e. over 2 game years into my game on an ARM size Map with 16 other AI gifted Races.

added: I just remembered: it was the end of year 2/start of year 3 special event with 3 choices. It looked like I should have gotten to choose an Ideology as a result of that Event, but I was unable to do so when I went to Ideology Screen, since I had no Culture Points.

I will assume this is addressed to me. In the future please quote a post you are responding to so we know who is talking to us.

While what you say is true, the problem I was reporting is that the military strengths of the factions should be reported consistently in the various places where they are shown. In my case one or more are clearly inconsistent with the others.

After researching small hull and getting my list of buildable ships expanded, the entry for the armed shuttle disappeared, even though it is still selectable and the tooltip still shows it is there. Note that I had clicked on the arrow above the F110 Phantom to expand the list to show its predecessors. When I had done that on previous turns the armed shuttle appeared correctly.

I tried to reply to your message, like I am with this message, without quoting it. But that does not seem to tie my message to your message, in an obvious way.

Update to reply #41:

this is from the patch notes:

AI players won't start as close to the human player.

Decreased the number of players that start in the players starting sector.

Not even close Playing on a Huge, Galaxy, Map with 5 major opponents. I am sure this is my setup or it should be as I change nothing from one game to the next except opp and my own factions stats. Side note when do you plan to add saving faction stats as it is tedious to change them every restart.

Map: Crappy start 3 nearest major is in the next star system over.

Map: Supper Crappy Start no fewer than 4 of the 5 majors in starting sector can not explore the full map as part is out of range so might be all 5.

If a Developer would give me detailed instructions on how to send save files I would be pleased to send them. Mostly need to know where they are at but am not a programmer so if there are any steps other than copy and paste I need them in simple form.

I'm not a developer, but typically we put the save file in a file sharing system (I use Dropbox) and then paste a link to it here in the forums. That allows the developers to download the file from the file sharing system.
