After watching the dev stream game from Friday May 1, 2015 for nearly 1000 turns, I observed something I didn't like from GC2:
The AI never wins.
In a typical game of GC2, the borders gel up after the colonization phase is over and then stay more or less the same for... ever. No AI empire ever seems to really exploit their position. They just keep the empire running. They shoot things down. They harass. They never go for the jugular. Basically, it felt as if the galaxy would continue to run itself indefinitely unless i stepped up and did something about it.
I don't think i ever played a game of GC2 that lasted longer than 500 turns. But in this dev stream game, it went for 1000 turns and the situation never tipped in any AI's favor. I would like to think that in a galaxy of smallish size, somebody would have won by then.
I would like to see the GC3 AI throw itself at victory if possible.
I haven't played GC3 yet (waiting for it to get finished), so maybe it already plays with ruthlessness. Would anyone like to comment on the current situation? Does the AI really try to kick booty or does it just keep things running?
