Star System Influence

I was wondering, and never paid enough attention during a game, what determines a star system's (not sector) influence? Also, does it change during the game? If so, how?

There is the base value of the star when you first find it. This can be zero, but sometimes a naturally high influence star pops up. Then population increases influence and so do social projects like embassies. Some wonders increase star influence as well as empire influence. Those are the concrete values I am sure of.

Next is the part I am not too sure of. I do not know if empire-wide influence boosters increase star influence directly or if they just amplify existing influence that has already been collected from the systems. These include +influence picks at the start of the game, influence resource starbases, technologies like artificial satellite, and wonders like Galactic Exhibition.

Then there is the odd-ball of the pack: culture starbase. This multiplies the combined influence already in a sector, but does not adjust system influence.

So the base starting influence of a star system is just a random number? If so, then I assume the range of random numbers is different for different color stars.

Does the number and quality of planets in a star system affect the starting influence of that star?

I don't know why any of this matters...just curious :notsure:

Purple stars yield higher influence, if memory serves. PQ will indirectly affect it, because high PQ => more pop => more influence. Plus it'll have more of an economy to build and support more maintenance-heavy facilities.

It's even possible for *Sol* to be purple, if you're lucky.

I've seen a FAQ or Forum thread that will tell you how it is done in detail.

The manual has a writeup on this. I attach an extract.

"Different star systems have different base levels of influence that are generally based on the quality
and position of the star system in the galaxy. This is then enhanced by the population of the planet
along with what social projects you build."

do other coloured stars have other abilities? is there one which increases reasearch or one for military?

#6 Harry,

Yes. Different color stars have different base-influences. Purple is the best. Yellow is average. White appears to be the worse.

There is also a "Precursor" random event which raises a star's base influence. According to the manual, systems the Precursors inhabited are considered more important in the overall scheme of things. Settling one nets you increased influence.
