AI Changes Home planet

Has anyone noticed that the AI sometimes changes its Home Planet(Planet with a crown) after colonizing a new planet? I have seen both the Torians and Altairians do this.
Is there any significance to this and can we do the same?

Yes, many have pointed this out before. Not too game unbalancing so it's probably a low priority fix.

Humans don't have the ability to switch our home planets.

This was only recently changed, however. In 1.03, you could go into Sol's "Details" screen and "cancel project" your Capital.

It could then be rebuilt on any planet of your choice.

The effects of the Capital are undocumented. The manual only states that to lose it causes massive morale/influence problems.
