Quick, Basic QoT Tip:

Change forms often.

Only go into open form (offensive form) when you are going to use ground spikes, uproot, or spike wave, and you have the mana to do so.  Once you've cast one or more of these spells, immediately go back to closed form.

Remember that in closed form you have increased regen and armor, and that you have instant access to the bramble shield ability, which will often save your life (it doesn't matter what build you're playing as QoT - you need bramble shield).

This may seem like common sense, but anytime you play QoT you should remember - stay in bulb form unless you're about to bust out some offensive abilities, then go right back.  You should stay alive longer and require healing (and limping back to the crystal) less often if you adhere to this philosophy.

Also, another common sense thing, but might as well mention: The hotkey for change form is 4.  You should have a finger poised over 4 almost all the time.  Don't bother actually clicking on the icon.  To be honest you should use hotkeys for as many things as possible if you want to get better, but at the very least use the 4 hotkey for switching between open and closed forms.

I agree, it's simple info but the few QoT's I've played with don't seem to get this haha.

The only problem is that if you're trying to gank someone, and you have both spike abilities, trying to shield + switch form + nuke + nuke + switch + shield etc etc leaves no time for normal attacks. So, if you can, just stay in open form till they die.

There is another problem with that, time, the time it takes to change leaves you open to stun attacks like silence or boulder roll, charm, etc.

You can move around while changing form; it doesn't leave you any more open to stuns etc than you would be normally.

Also, obviously if you're nuking somebody you stay open for however long it takes to get out your string of attacks, if you're chasing somebody you leave it open longer.  The point is, don't stay in open form any longer than you have to in order to cast your spells.

You can move but not cast any defensive or offensive spells. You might be able to move out of the way, but you're still spending time doing it, time when you're vulnerable...and oftentimes running away doesn't help much.

the cooldown on Ground Spikes and Spike Wave is very short. its possible to open up and go into "nuke mode" and just dump the whole mana bar in about 15 seconds. then you close up and go back into your normal defensive play of bramble shielding allies and camping in the back with your minions.

when going 1on1 with another DG i don't recommend opening up under any circumstances though. open mode is much more for offensive support in group encounters.

QoT shouldn't really be going 1 on 1 with anybody.

End of PossiblyImpossible's quote

This is another piece of common sense that many QoT players don't seem to understand :-P
