The campaign isn't meant to teach you the game.  Play sandbox, and have a look at the tutorials.

Cakewalk in the campaign just means your allies are set to be idiots-the Dread Lords will still be just as difficult, if not more so.

You can access cheat mode by creating a shortcut to the game executable and appending "cheat" (without quotes) to the end of the target in the shortcut properties.  This is outlined and the cheats are listed here.

The best way to learn (and play) the game is to just play it sandbox. The campaigns are useful to learn the story. But really, it's the sandbox is where the fun is. :)

and a navidia sli card

Turn off SLI.

If that doesn't work, post your debug.err found in \My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2 (or \GC2DarkAvatar or \GC2TwilightArnor as appropriate).

Create a shortcut to the game executable and edit the properties for that shortcut.  Don't edit the properties for the launcher.  You're looking for GC2TwilightOfTheArnor, not TALaunch, in the same folder, wherever you have GC2 installed.

Up one folder from the \Twilight folder is the GC2 root directory, where you'll find the base game executable and launcher (with the data in the appropriate folders) as well as a DarkAvatar folder within which resides the Dark Avatar executable, launcher, and data.
