Sins Patch

Hi there.

I am unable to download and install the impulse client so can someone point me in the direction of patches for the game to download on their own ?

Cheers

Doesn't exist. If you have issues with Impulse you should contact [email protected] so they can help get it running.

Unfortunately support@stardock wont be able to help me, cheers though.

A google search lists some sites which have the patches, is it ok to get a patch that way ?

Probably not, and they are probably not the most recent one.
You might want to explain why support cannot help you.
The immediate thought that I and anyone else would get is "illegal version" in use. If this is the case, tough - go buy it and you will get support. If it is NOT the case, then I am at a loss as to why you cannot ask for support on a product you have paid money for....

I do love the little pirates requests for help they always make themselves so obvious :)

Excuse me, I am offfended that you believe I have pirated this game.  I have registered this account with a Sins Of A Solar Empire account key.  I'm sure the forum admins can confirm that by looking at my account.

The reason I cannot install Impulse on the PC that has the game is because the system administrator will not give me permission.  I was only able to get permission to install the game.  That is the reason support@stardock cannot help me install Impulse.

Am I able to install Impulse on another machine and transfer the patch files across ?

Amazing how people get offended by a faceless person on the internet offending their anonymous faceless forum name.

Anyways, it is possible to download and patch on one PC and then transfer to another PC by memory card but to extract the archive I believe you need Impulse installed on the destination PC.

And be an admin on that PC...

I'm not an admin on the target PC sadly.  What exactly does the Impulse client include in the installation ? I believe the system admin is concerned with ad software (and other unknowns) being on the network.

Is their a listing of what is installed with Impulse that I can show the administrator ? ie: in order to get permission to install it.

After it is patched, is Impulse able to be removed ?

There's absolutely nothing installed with Impulse. It's mainly a wrapper built on IE with .NET. But you'd be able to get a better technical description from support if you tell them of your issue. It has a "fast start" option (that's off by default) that loads a tiny exe into memory on start-up to make the actual client launch faster, but since that's off by default that won't be an issue. That's really all I can think of.

After you patch you can uninstall Impulse.

Thank you Annatar11.  I have no idea what .NET is but I'll see what info I can get from support.

.NET is Microsoft's development framework for making Windows applications ;)

But yeah, just explain to support that you need to satisfy the sysadmin so he lets you install Impulse and they should help you out.

As has been noted, Impulse is required to get the patches for the game. In order to have content digitally distributed to you, it is necessary to have access to a reliable internet connection.  If the security or accepted use policies in your place of business do not allow you to install Impulse, it is an issue to address with your IT department. I can tell you that Impulse does not contain any malicious software and does not pose a security threat.

It does pose a major productivity threat though - people installing and upgrading games instead of doing work!!!! :D

Upon downloading the update, 1.16, it holds at "Verifying Download" and does not progress further.  I run Vista Home on a quadcore Dell.  Any ideas?

Disable your AV and restart Impulse with admin rights. Should do the trick.
