Installation Problem

Everytime I attempt to install SoaSE it fails.

 This is what happens:

I load the disk in I press install, I continue through the installation process. When I get tpo the part where I choose Express Install (or easy, install whatever it is) and press next, it then go's to the next screen. A new window then appears which has a big cross in a red circle (no writing). I then click Ok, it then says: "the installation of Sins of a Solar Empire has failed: "Fatal error during installation". Please check your system setting then try again. I then click finish and it exits the installer and the game isn't installed.

Do you have the demo installed? If so, uninstall it first. It's known to cause this issue :)

I had the same problem. I deleted the demo and was able to install the game.

i have also had this same problem. I downloaded the demo and played it with no problems. i have since bought the CD/DVD version of the game and have tried to install the game. i get the same 'error' message with no further info. i deleted the demo and can't find any traces of it on my system anywhere (using the search tool key phrase 'sins of a solar empire'. i am at a loss as to what to do now.

i deleted the demo

You need to actually uninstall it, not just delete the files. Otherwise the registry entries will remain, and those are the problem.

You would probably manually have to run regedit and delete the Sins-specific registry keys, that's what's messing with the full version install. As to what those registry keys are, someone who's messed with them should field it :p

What are resgisttry keys? Could anyone post a walk through because I am totally clueless to all of this. Thanks!

1) Run 'regedit' from the start menu->run.

2) You'll see an interface that looks like windows explorer. Look at the "tree" view on the left and dig down through the following path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Stardock\Drengin.net.

3) Expand the Drengin.net key (folder), you'll see a folder named sins under it. Select the sins folder, and press Delete. Be very careful that you have sins selected and nothing else.

4) That should be it. Once that's gone you should be able to install.
