Does EVIL Affect Morale?

Does being evil affect morale? If not, it should. Otherwise, evil is too attractive an option from a benefits standpoint. Taking the good path really has no attractive benefits. While from a role-playing POV, it may make sense, it just doesn't jive with winning.

The reason why I suggest being evil should affect morale (negatively) is just because the leaders are evil doesn't mean people are.

IIRC the Good path has morale-boosting tech (Cure for Depression). *shrug* I don't think Evil/Good is unbalanced.

The good guys get more morale techs and more trade techs. More morale means more sustainable population, and more people mean more taxes and production from each planet. So, the good guys can get more out of each planet if all other factors are equal. More trade means more money, if you can protect the routes (or get lucky and have a UP do it for you).

Some might say that the evil guys can simply take more planets militarily to offset the good civ's planetary powerhouses, but who says a good guy can't go Space:1+999 and send some fully loaded transports on a "diplomatic" mission? ;)

The good path has several very natty techs later on in the tree, even if you're going for a military victory. IMHO, if you're going for a tech or culture victory, good is the way to go :)

Cataleptic (or anyone else who's managed to be pure good),

Do you have to be lucky to get to pure good? (In getting enough moral decisions. Pure good is anything above 90 i suppose). I have played several games only taking the goodest options but have yet to reach pure good status.

You do not need to be lucky to get to pure good.

hey, being good is great :P
wth are you talking about? good means that the other good civs will naturally want to work with you

evil civs do not always want to work with other evil civs, and are prone to trechary

the good path has a nice long-term bonus, you can practically ally up with the altarans, torians and sometimes the arceans

how do you know what "level" (pure good, pretty darn good, almosat good, good enough) etc? All I see is the color on my tabs..orange to yellow for good and red for evil.
Also, can you START out evil or do you have to gradually turn evil by picking the nasty options on events?(Just asking for a...friend. I.. er, I mean he wants to be really nasty, stinkin, ass itchin evil from the start.)
Thanx.

I've noticed that to be pure good, you don't have to always choose the good option in the pop-up screens. Both games I've completed so far, the first on begimmer, the second on sub-normal, I only chose the good option when I thought I could afford it and often chose the neutral option. I still ended up as pure good in both games and won both with cultural victories,
