800x600 resolution

Is it possible to run Galactic Civilizations in 800x600 resolution? My monitor does not support anything higher, so even if there is an option to change it in game, i have no access to it.

Nope, I think that the resolution is fixed.

Memory needed to run the game in a given resolution:

Resolution | Video Memory
-----------------------------------------------------------
640 x 480 x 16 | 4 MB
800 x 600 x 16 | 6 MB
1024 x 760 x 16 | 8 MB
1280 x 1024 x 16 | 12 MB
640 x 480 x 32 | 8 MB
800 x 600 x 32 | 10 MB
1024 x 760 x 32 | 12 MB
1280 x 1024 x 32 | 18 MB

From Readme.txt
Are you sure?

Then I am wrong :)
So I suppose that the game adapt itself to the resolution used by windows.

Sorry to say, but you must be wrong again. Im forced to use 800x600 or smaller. And when I run the game, it by default, changes it to 1024x768

Can anyone track down the file with configuration [run game, change res, quit, check files with current date] and email that file to me? Id appreciate very much :|

I think you lost me here. Why were you saying then that I was wrong to supposed the the resolution was fixed, since it looks like that it behave this way?

BTW, these threads seem to support my sayings http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=194548

Just make a search on thread with the word "resolution" in their title

I've read many of those "resolution" threads. None of them helped me.

galciv.exe w
galciv.exe -w

With "" or without "" it never ran game in windowed mode. Also I haven't seen anyone confirming that 800x600 max resolution problem was solved.

Do I need some patch to allow windowed mode?

You have to run at 1024x768 or higher. Strategy First had an erroenous thing in their readme.

So, what you're saying, is that if i can't run windows in 1024x768 or higher, I can't play?

Well I use 1600x1200 and I think the game fixes itself to that resolution since my monitor doesn't blink while starting the game, it usually does so while changing resolution.
