Happy as hell?

Happy as hell?

or how I learned to love the bomb and other strangeness...

After contemplating a good bit about whether or not I should start this thread, I've obviously decided to forge ahead and do so, duh. My main reason is due to all of 'our' negative leaning threads and the topics which they contain. My secondary reason is because my 2 GB of RAM arrived yesterday and I'm quite impressed going from 1 gig to 3 . So on with the show...
I am "happy as hell" because I finally got my RAM. 2 GB OCZ Platinum series. Sweet looking and awesome performance. Of course the first thing I did after installing, and running certain memory tests for a few hours, was load up DA.
Let me just say, I seem to be able to have my gigantic, all abundant galaxies again as I had no CTD's during my gameplay. I ran FreeRAM on the other monitor just to observe things. FreeRAM must not pick up on more than 2 gigs but I ran this game with about 1800 RAM available at it's lowest. Normally, when I was running 1 GB the game seemed to drain 500 to 600 mb, thus prompting a CTD within the next few turns. The game would constantly drain RAM.
Now, with the new memory, once the game 'bottomed out' so to say, sucking up it's 500 to 500 mb's of RAM or so it 'stopped'. Gradually, I watched the RAM actually raise up to 2040 mb and hold steady until I finally had to save and quit... wife came home AND electrical storms rolled in (I'm wondering if the two are somehow related, the wife and weather that is, but that's not necessarily important right now). Also impressed with how fast the game shut down vs. how it usually did... lagging that is. I'm not going to spout off too much about it as it seems that as soon as I give this game praise it thwarts me so...
Anyhow, please feel free to share what has or might make you happy today and let's talk some positives for a change. Later guys!!!

My wife will often make funny comments about the game. She has absolutely no idea of what a computer game is and is otherwise pretty much computer illiterate.

Quite the opposite in my case. My wife loves 'her' computer games, mainly the Sims2 and Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, but she occasionally likes to throw in SimGolf just for s&g's.
I had our (MY) office all set up the way I wanted it... messy and cluttered and basically a room that my wife wanted no parts of. Then she really cleaned it up last week on her day off and things haven't been the same since. She has 'allowed' me my game time, after some much needed bitching on my part, and for the moment she seems content to sit back and watch me play. Her questions aren't as simple as "why don't you like the yellow circles?" and she actually thinks the planet graphics and ships are pretty neat. I've tried to explain the general basics of this game to her as I go through my turns and she understands what's going on... too much micromanagement in her opinion. For a moment though I thought she was actually thinking of trying the game (I think this would be a curse more than a blessing because if she got into it, I would NEVER get any gametime.) but her micromanagement comment pretty much assured me that she wouldn't.
This is a great thread EvilS. Are you sure someone didn't get a hold of your account and post this?

Thank you and no, no one got a hold of my account. I was just tired of reading about all of the bad when I know that we could all come up with a ton of good stuff. My thinking was that maybe if we tried to be more 'positive' it would actually have some small effect on our lives, kind of like the 'power in prayer' idea. Who knows, maybe if we all came together at once and did nothing but think good, positive thoughts, maybe we could 'change the world'.
It would be nice to see more people respond though. I realize this isn't a 'juicy' topic but it seems like we are but a handful of 'happy people'. Oh well, maybe this is more for us 'old farts' anyhow.

...FreeRAM must not pick up on more than 2 gigs...

Actually, I think that would be Windows not running more than 2 gigs.

Whatever do you mean? My system specs clearly register the 3GB of RAM, plus FreeRAM doesn't display anything less than 2GB until 'after' it uses about 700 mb... so my system is definitely running with 3GB, minus the couple hundred megs it 'always' uses for system apps. If there's something I'm missing though, please share.
Oh, and if you're trying to piss on my parade...
This is a 'happy' thread so...

I get happy happy when my 9-yr son says things like "Daddy is winning his game.", or when he blows bubbles with his face in the pool while swimming a half-width on his own.

Robin has autism at a high-functional level, with particular difficulties in verbal communication and motor skills. You would think that would depress us, and it does a bit. But every increment of progress on the things he has difficulty with is an enhanced delight, and he is getting to the point now that we can see the possibilities for mainstreaming (adaptation to normal/near-normal lifestyle) are REAL.

Oh, and finding a 26 PQ planet tucked in the corner behind my home system makes me real happy, too!

I meant to say "anything MORE than 2GB"... couldn't edit fast enough!

My wife plays computer Scrabble and checks her email. That's all she does with her computer.

My son loves first-person shooters. I used to, too, but my reflexes are going. I'm not as twitchy as I used to be. I'm much grumpier, though.

My daughter is a Sims junkie. She's as bad with the Sims as I am with GalCiv2.

Anyway, none of them understand my fascination with the game. What they see is a bunch of colored circles and squiggles, unless they walk by during a battle or while I have the negotiation screen open. Every once in a while I try to picture what I look like in my bathrobe at 1:00AM trying to scrag a few more Drengens before going to bed and I scare myself.

Silly people. They don't know what they're missing. Actually , my son has tried it and he thinks it is too hard. That was on "challenging" and I'm playing "crippling" right now. Silly people.

he is getting to the point now that we can see the possibilities for mainstreaming (adaptation to normal/near-normal lifestyle) are REAL.

It can happen. Chin up. We have similar issues in my extended family. He'll get there. It might just take a little longer.

She has 'allowed' me my game time

Try stamping your feet while yelling "You are not the boss of me!"

Then let me know if it works. I'd like to try that myself.

Maybe we need a "He-man Womenhater's Thread"! Think Kryo would let us?

Well now I never said I hated them!
Understand them? Most definitely do not.

Since no one seems to be happy today I will shamelessly bump this one...

I am happy as hell today because it is Friday. Even though my pay sucks it is also payday so I am happy about the little bit of cash in my pocket.
I am happy as hell that the drive in is playing Spidey 3 with Ghost Rider (old Marvel nut here, but I DON'T like Nicolas Cage as the Ghost Rider... ).
I am happy as hell that the work week is now almost over and I will have the weekend to play DA!
Finally, I am happy as hell that the weather finally seems to be breaking here in the Northeast.
So to all, have a great weekend and I hope you can find some time to play... DA that is but then after reading Mumblefratz's comment about french maids... I wonder what goes on in that man's house...

Wow, what a great drive-in! They're usually (around here, in Rhode Island) a few weeks behind in showing newly released movies. I love drive-ins. Where else can you play catch before the movie, drink beer (or your choice of beverage) during the movie, and do what you please if the movie sucks?

At home. Aging crabby Republicans watch a lot of on-demand cable movies. That way we don't have to venture out into the world and risk being stoned, or, worse, encountering Liberals!

Ha! That's a bit sad, though.

We liberals don't always have on-demand! If I had it, I might never venture out. That might mean that I would have to get a real job, though.

You should add "happy we have a local drive-in" to your list. I read a couple of years ago that there are only something like 20 working drive-in theaters in the US these days, down from something like 800 at the peak of their popularity. I always enjoyed the drive in experience; it sorta seemed like the family was more "going to the movies - together" at the drive in.

Get a job! Grrr....I hate liberals! They're always standing around my palatial estate, trying to look in my windows and watch my pay-for-view!

I am "happy as hell" today because the sky is blue and the sun is shining. It is a beautiful 80 degrees and I am on the downslope of my workday.
I am "happy as hell" today because the robin that chose to build her nest on my ledge outside the kitchen window has laid an egg. One lonely little guy which will hopefully hatch and be healthy. The loss of using the window is a minor one at this point since it is a nice diversion, especially when doing the dishes and even more so when the cat decides he wants to scope out the situation... I can only imagine what that poor bird is thinking with all of us gawking at her daily.

It is a great day because I'm here to write this! What a blessing! There are many people who don't get to enjoy such a luxury. Literally billions around the planet. It is a great day because its a beautiful day outside...sunny and warm. And its a specially great day, because tonite i get to frag the terrans who unwisely declared war on me late last nite. I was nearly done with the evening play time when they did that, so, today, they learn their hard lesson.

I know people have CTD's on this, but I've found it to be a very hardy little game. Sometimes its slow, sometimes its stupid, but darn it, its still a lot of fun. Cant think of another single player strategy game that's been as much fun for me, and I have closets full of games.

SO tonite, I'll be happy cause I get to play a great game in a very beautiful place with my very beautiful wife that lets me indulge in this very entertaining game.

I agree with Evil, at least on this, we need to recognize that our lives would be very different right now if we hadn't got to play this really corny little game. We'd have to find something else entertaining. And we really need to be happy that we GET to do it, albeit doing IT in a French Maid's outfit might not be the happiness we are all talking about.

Have Fun!

I'm happy today because I have an absessed tooth and need to get it taken care of when the infection go down. It made me realize that I'm alive a decade or so longer then the doctors thought I would be. Yaaa Absessed tooth.

Well, since it's been a couple of days and it seems that none of us has been very happy this week, except for maybe geminisama (we never did get that AAR on the date with Jessie! ) I guess I will bump this one yet again, and since it is Friday, mention a few 'happy thoughts'.
First, once again (and no I will not keep saying this) I am happy as hell that it is Friday/payday.
I am happy as hell that my wife works this Saturday, not happy that she won't be with me but at the same time happy that I will get some 'unfettered' game time.
I am happy as hell that Iztok took the time to add to his weapons analysis, if you would call it that, and therefore has provided me with some good reading for this evening.
Finally, I am happy as hell that the body kits Dodge was selling off at clearance pricing (1100.00 kits ended up costing me, as an employee , 180.00 each) finally came in and I can get busy installing them on our cars... yes, both the wife and I drive Neons.
So on that note, all of you have a great weekend. Remember to love the ones your with and live each day to the fullest that you can. Sometimes it pays to remember that life really IS short... to short to waste time with the stupid shit. Peace people!

Oh, and BTW, for anyone interested... there are still a few of those body kits around for 03-05 neons, only thing is they are only available in red. You know where to find me...

I never promised an AAR! D:

Vicariously...hmmm..not sure what that means. And honestly, I dont even know what the acronym for "AAR" means. Yes, I am a foolish child.
