Auto move problems?

I think I may have figured out why the Auto-Pilot sometimes seems to stall and skip turns.
Regarding three categories of auto move: Auto-Pilot, Auto-Survey, and Sector Sweep. The sequence currently appears to be executed randomly and something (ship proximity?) seems to interrupt some auto moves. As a result, your end-of-turn movement will stop, focussing on a Sensor Drone with some of its movement rate left.
This creates a problem if you have the "End of Turn Skips Moves" option turned on, because the Sensor Drone in question is never the last ship to move. Thus, when you hit the "Turn" button, every ship that would normally move after the Sensor Drone loses its turn. Of course, if you don't have the "Skip Moves" option on, you end up manually 'reminding' all of your ships to continue with their Sector Sweeps.
Is it possible to have automatic ship movement programmed in a particular sequence? (I.e. Auto-Survey, then Auto-Pilot, then Sector Sweep.) I realise this could be problematic, since you WANT Sector Sweeps to notify you of nearby ships. But, sector sweeps do cause detected ships to show up on the main map, so as long as you're keeping an eye on the big picture, they should still perform their proper function.
End transmission.
