Capturing ships

I was wondering if Galciv has the possiblility of capturing and perhaps analyzing enemy ships ?
I recall that when things went all pear-shaped in SE4 I generally switched to a Borg-like approach, build a small specialized task force and captured some of the AI's isloated high-tech ships. Then pushed the AI's tech back down its throat. Very effective and enjoyable. :)

I used to do that in moo2. Sub Space Teleporter, So you can move up close without them firing back, death rays to kill all resistance on the ships, sub space teleporters to get my guys on board. Troop pods for extra marines. I won a 40 dooms stars and other ships V my 30 doom stars that way. Even though the they had better tech, most of their doom stars had stella converters shame they never got to fire them, but they were lovely to take to bits for tech.

Hmmmm. Along a related note, perhaps a suitably-equipped ship -- one with 'surveying' and good 'sensors' ability -- might be able to glean some research points about unknown technologies encountered in battle. Even if you don't capture the vessel, sensors might tell you a little about how they operated, and in addition unless your weapons obliterated the target entirely there may be interesting debris.

Capture in Moo2 was a bit TOO strong when combined with telepathy and good ground-combat bonuses (e.g. being creative and picking up all the gc techs you'd otherwise ignore), I'd say. I think I once sent a couple of AS-equipped BBs into an early/midgame war against the Humans, and ended up with most of their fleet -- possible because the ASes as well as marines 'regenerated' after each battle, and because I easily captured the starbases and could use those to trash planetary defenses.
