tech tree issue

tech victory

in the last patch, tech victory got "nerfed" because the other races now see you going for it and start to dislike you
this is very, very good but imho it doesnt fix the real issue with the tech tree (and tech victory)

for this victory, you just need to research one tree
this would be fine if this tree was by far the most expensive, but it isnt
to be clear: it is the most expensive, but not by far

imho the weapon techs are just too expensive, its so much easier to research tech victory then to research through 2 weapon trees, not to mention that AFTER you researched through those two (or even one) weapon tree you still have to build those weapons and go conquer everyone while the game is won after researching the tech victory

the tech costs are just totally imba

i see two possibilities to fix this:
a) make tech victory a LOT more expensive or make weapon techs a LOT cheaper (like shield techs)
i dont like the weapon tree anyway, so many useless in-between techs, i design a ship and 2 turns later i have a better tech
that totally sucks ! i dont want to upgrade my stuff every 2 turns and i want to reach a point where i an say "i got the best weapons available, lets go and conquer" and i want that point not to be after i could have research tech victory 5 times

b) change tech victory to something like in the civ games or gal civ 1
maybe have it split into parts: tech victory research part, tech victory social part, tech victory military part
for a whole tech victory you have to research its 3 parts, earch part being at the end of a tech tree (military tech victory at the end of each weapon tree, social part at the end of the influence and the diplo tree and so on)
so the player still does not need to research through the whole tree to get all needed tech victory parts but he needs to research at least one whole weapon and at least the diplo OR influance part of the tech tree to be able to achive tech victory
i really like that idea maybe even make more parts, one industrial or defense or starbase-tech-related or something like that

You aren't supposed to max out your weapons before doing anything. I've only got the top weapon once, and by that time I had already effectively won, I don't think I even got a single ship built with the new tech.

If your ships are getting obsolete every 2-4 turns, then just research your weapons until you get to something really expensive. After that research something else. Your ships wont get obsolete if you just stop researching weapons for a while (not permanently). Maybe you should think about something other than weapons, like better factories or diplomancy or something....

I suppose the point the OP is making is that given the same RP production (say you got your super NLCs producing insane amounts of RP), it is way easier to win by putting them into tech victory as compared to putting them to work into weapon techs for a conquest victory because even though insanely powerful weapons compared to the opponent pretty much gurantee a win, it still takes additional production and soldering techs to pull it off.

I'm just interpreting btw, not my opinion.

But you don't need to finish the weapons tree to win a military victory.

Besides, there's nothing wrong with a tech victory being easier than a military victory in certain circumstances.

Plus, while you research military techs, you are becoming stronger. While you research the Deeper Knowledge etc. techs you will fall behind the other nations.

its just so much easier to win a game without fighting a single war (playing on crippling!) with tech victory
last game i was evil and wanted to conquer the galaxy
i got that evil beam weapon and thought "great, now i can go crazy attacking my enemies"
and that worked quite well - but still, before i conquered even half of the galaxy i won a tech victory (i ran out of other stuff to research! i was through with all industry/research/social/influence/diplomacy techs, had one defense tech tree complete and i had those great evil beam weapons)

imho its just pointless to waste RP in a weapon tree because before you can use your weapons you would have won a tech victory anyway (like Richrf explained)
