Tutorial in Galciv??

Just wanted to know whether there are any plans to include a turorial in the release version? This game has a pretty steep learning curve, so I'm sure it would come in handy.

Last I asked, the official response was "If you want to learn how to play, RTFM." (Paraphrase)

"Paraphrase".

Oh you mean they didn't really say that ;)

Seriously, though. The manual is a must read, but still: A tutorial would be nice.

Also, check out this http://www.galciv.com/encyclopedia.asp?action=showpage&page=http://www.galciv.com/docs#_Toc28077968 in the games manual for a basic walkthough.

Hope it helps :-)

okay - cant make it work - go to the manual, find the link in the Index going to "Basic Walkthrough"

Thanks, Flemming. But I didn't mean for myself. I merely meant that with the competition with MoO3 looming GalCiv could do a lot worse than having a tutorial.

Ok I have to say The manual rated from 1 to 10 I would give it a 4 :( :( :( :( :(

There is nothing wrong with The manual... It is just missing about 400 pages... I mean a game this complex and deep The manual just gives a very broad overwview of things...

If you are going to do an on-line manual, look at how Space Empires IV did it... It is a very nice HTML manual that you can access while in the game...

Hehe- well, I think the manual is "Work-in-progress" this far :)

Asmodean_dk - yeah, probably, I guess we will have to wait for the Devs to answer this one, although I doubt it will make it into the game by now.

Not real likely that there will be a tutorial.

The user manual is pretty complete on how to play the game and the walkthrough should be enough to get players going pretty well.

Tutorials work in games where the game play is pretty restricted. That is not the case with games like GalCiv, CIV and MOO (and I don't remember a tutorial for MOO2 or CIVx, either). If a tutorial of GC that was as meaningful and complete as those found in other games could be produced I suspect it would require 2-3 CDs just to package the tutorial alone.

One thing we'll be throwing in for new players is a "Rookie Mode", where the number of "first time" prompts is increased significantly. More of the clickable items in the game will have a popup attached to them, so the first time you click on the colony ship, you get a run down on what it is and how to use it. Same with certain buttons in the interface, and even after certain techs are aquired, a helpful dialog will stear newbies in the right direction.

Of course, this mode turned off by default. ;)
