I dunno if this was mentioned anywhere or not already but here goes.
I like my ships big, bold, and beautiful... so in one game after I had eliminated 5 civs and three were left I had a huge influence rating (around 71%). I wasn't wanting an influence victory though so I tried not to expand. None of my planets were building ships and only my backwater planets were still building crap.
So I cranked my research to 100% and sat back for 15-20 minutes and went from Phasor III to Doom Ray, fully researched the laser-defence line, and got to hyperwarp III.
I upgraded all my ships in my fleet.... some 30 or so ships. 10 of them were medium hulled and the other 20 were small hull.
After fully outfitting my bank account sat at -34,000 bc. Rofl crazy eh? But I was making like 300 bc a turn and had a huge lead so I figured whatever....
Next turn though I magically went from -34,000 bc to -2000 bc. then every turn after it increased by 300 bc.
i tried this again when I had researched more into the warp lines, life suport, and sensors. Same thing. Doesn't matter how broke your ass gets... you always seem to bottom out at -2000 bc.
I think thats bullshit. if my ass goes 34k into debt I should have to pay the full 34K to get out. It just ruins the game it 32K is suddenly paid for..... I pretty much got all my ships upgraded for free... not very fair.
