Which is the best race for a beginner?

Hi, I haven't purchased the game yet but plan to this weekend. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what is the ideal race for someone who is new to this game. I don't have alot of experience with 4x strategy games( mainly Total War series and Rise of Nations) and I could use any input from more experienced gamers.

Well that's debatable, I imagine you're likely to get a variety of answers.
Stick with the Humans for the first game; I think the game actually defaults to Humans to start with.

I second ubbax. I think the humans have the proper set of abilities for a new player. I wouldnt say they're the best overall mind you. But yeah, quite good for starting out.

Ubbax, I read that guide and it gave me some good pointers. This appears to be a very in depth game and I can use as much info as possible. Thanks.
