The Modding Folder

Okay, so you teased us about it in the update! How's it work? I would love to do some mods, and this sounds like a very good feature!

Modifying the interface.. now that is something I have never seen in any other game... (assuming that is what they mean by "Screens can be modified with DesktopX") if this program is a modifiable as they say, there is no limit to what you can do! I can invision people adding entire new sections of behaviour to this game... maybe like adding space-religions with more bonuses depending on the religion of the leader and that of the planet . Or Screens can be modified with DesktopXmaybe an entire new line of research that allows, oh I don't know, more complex trading systems (buy from one planet cheap, sell to another where you can make more...

or something else that adds an entire new dimension to the game... but maybe I am getting ahead of myself here... My point is, that with the ability to change everything from images to interfacees (if we can change tabs, layouts, information shown), then this is technically possible...

Even so, it would be nice if we can modify the infomation shown on the screen on a page if we want to see more than what is shown...

No, no! I'm talking about this line in the patch's Readme.txt:

+ Support for a mods directory where people can dump things in (we'll document this as soon as we get a breather)

It sounds like we'll be able to modify the game files for tech, improvements, etc., without totally thrashing the default settings. I just don't think they're gonna get a breather for a few months yet, sooo...

wonder if we would be able to change the game mechanics too, specially make the combat more interesting, like add some real tactics ala Stars!, remove fleet ship count limit, add jammers, etc. And also remove the "Speak To" super-espionage bug

So I was digging through the game folder in My Documents last night and found the following tree...

Galciv2\Mods
+---Data
+---Gfx
+---Screens

Under each of these is many more folders, particularly in the Data folder...

But I still don't know how they work.
