Organize Your Shipsets

An idea for taking shipsets from game to game

After playing a few games I grew tired of making my ships over again each game, or worse trying to remember what I need to research to get my corvette back in a new game.

Here's a simple idea that works, maybe someone else will like it.

For each type of ship you use (light fighter, heavy fighter, probe, corvette, cruiser, etc.) make a Mark 0 model that is the hull and bling ONLY. No components. Then, when you play another game you just have to pull up the Mark 0 shell and add whatever stuff you have researched onto it. Save a lot of time.

I'm really liking this game!

Yep, for mine I just make a [Racename] Fighter, [Racename] Frigate, etc, then just upgrade that blank hull into whatever I need. With my hull mod I won't even need to do that, since it makes all hulls accessible to all races (and you can use any hull model as any size).

That's cool, and so easy to do I of course would have never have thought of that myself. Thanks for the tip!

I've done something similar. I have basic hull templates for a snub fighter and "torpedo" bomber available as techs are researched. My later designs appear as their appropriate hulls do, rather than weapons and engines. In addition to that, I've replaced all the Mark 0 ship types for my race of choice. My colony ships are faster and have longer range. My constructors have a range equal to the flagship. I've designed a scanner ship with a larger sensor bubble than the flagship, and it's faster than the scout. None are much more expensive than their stock counterparts, and they'll all improve as the appropriate components become smaller and more powerful.

is there a way to copy out the ship designs to share with friends?

Look under My Computer -> Documents -> My Games -> Galciv2 -> ships

You'll find your custom ship's files there. *.Shipclass and *.Shipcfg.
