Wrath of Snuggles

How a teddy bear ruled the world

Alright, so I thought I'd start out with a custom race on normal - and I wanted something different than the rest of the races. I saw that teddy bear picture and knew what would come - the cultural takeover of Snuggles. So I started out pretty far from everyone else on default settings - the only other planet close that was habitable was a class 9 though, so that was good. I quickly began with factories, research facilities....constantly building constructors for cultural star bases. It took until the first Council meeting that to realize how powerful influence was - I had already gained a free planet and was nearly double the influence of everyone else. I quickly kept pushing out more starbases, defending them as necessary from the one schmuck who was mad that I took his planet - I researched all the way to cultural takeover and learned some basics in ground combat because my ship technology was horribly behind. Then I ripped out all of my technology bases and built purely restaurants and embassies - by the next council meeting I had taken another planet and ironically in the Council we voted for someone to place a headquarters (aka +50% infuence). I won since I had nearly triple the votes of my 5 opponents - and won the game before the next year with ease - I was gaining a planet about ever 8-9 turns. Who doesn't want to love a Teddy Bear?

My victory story has some beef though - I only had to invade 2 planets to finish the game but up to that point, an AI had only sent the same ship to 1 starbase the entire time. Don't you think you'd realize if you started losing planets that ya needed to go to war? The highest I saw was a 4 attack and 1 defense while my bases all had a 7 attack and 5 defense in everything - is the AI just stupid when it comes to fighting influence? I'm going to attempt a hard game but on normal I thought they'd put up more of a fight against Snuggles, the tyrant ruler of Fluffy.
