To open or not to open?

Ok, I preordered the game from EB back at the beggining of Feb. and by now as most of you know, EB and many other companies are all backordered and whatnot. Well, today me and my wife went to Best Buy to buy a new MP3 player gadget and I had to run by the PC games and see if GCII was there. IT WAS ! and I bought it, but it doesnt appear to be the collectors edition, or atleast it doesnt say anything about being the collectors edition on the box (what does the collectors edition look like). As of right now its unopened and returnable.

Well here is my dilema, should I open my GCII box and have a happy weekend of GCII goodness or should I wait for the evil EB to fulfill their order? So its normal - non-preorder box vs pre-ordered collectors edition

BTW I work at BB so the game only cost me $33 bucks, my EB total is $48 with overnight shipping.

What the heck should I do people, I cant keep staring at this box.

I think the good people at stardock are going to let all the first runs of the game download the CE extra stuff. There are a few posts about it around here, so look around, and if you can confirm it, I'd open it.

easy. open the game, get the collectors edition later and then gift the opened game to a friend or loved one later

Could someone at Stardock or someone who has been blessed by poseidon please confirm "Mephiston5"s statement concering letting all of us who have the first prod. run, download the CE content?

I would think if it is non-CE then you would get all the downloadable items but you would likely be out of the CE Box and Tech Tree poster. Of course that is only a guess.

Eh... that's hard to believe. People pay more for the CE stuff, and it's not just a poster that made their decision. While I would LOVE to have the CE hulls and in game goodies, I doubt that they're just going to give it to everyone, and there's nothing on this site that indicates as such.

Yes there is. If you have a first run issue of the game (and you do since you just got it) then you will get the downloadable extras.

This is directly from the Home page here. Just scroll down a bit to the topic: Collector's Edition Special Content

Some retailers who took pre-orders didn't order the Collector's Edition SKU.

No problem, we'll make sure you're taken care of. Thanks to the serial #s that come with the game, we know which serial #s were part of the first manufacturing run.

Therefore, anyone who pre-ordered the game or gets a box from the first run (the pre-orders pretty much eat all the first manf run) will be able to download the special Collector's Edition content.

That includes:

The Galactic Civilizations II Desktop
Additional goodies to help design your ships and more!
So don't worry, we'll make sure everything works out okay. We'll be updating the Downloads page in the next 24 hours to handle this.

Well I hope so. Unfortunately, I have two seperate Serials for the game (bought download + CD direct from StarDock and got one right away, then was emailed a different one) and neither of them work on the download page that is linked from that post. : \
