How do FACTIONS work with CUSTOM RACES... like where do the factions come from?

I thought maybe factions were linked to abilities.. but it dose not appear do..

Here are two custom factions with the exact same layout.... one is made from scratch and one is copied from the corporate default race and then edited... see how the factions are completely diffrent... and this is with all races.

How are factions defined and selected during race collection? (no one on discord seems to know)

Someone was just discussing this on the Discord yesterday, I'm not sure what conclusion they came to. I do not play custom races myself at this time... I'll see if anyone came up with a definitive answer to your question.. IIRC it was thought that they were tied to the civ abilities..

I seem to recall hearing on a dev Q&A session (I think I actually watched it on Stardock's youtube channel) where someone asked this exact question, and the devs confirmed that they will indeed be adding the ability to assign specific factions to custom civs.

That would imply that it is currently not possible.

I asked the question on the Q&A & the Devs did promise to add the ability to assign factions to Custom Civs. They did not say how they are currently assigned. Someone told me on an earlier post they thought they were linked to the base civ you copy, but that was not true for my custom civ., so I still have no idea how the factions are currently assigned.
