Yea...you should probably just skip right to GalCiv III: Crusade

With the Steam Summer sale coming up, we wanted to make sure that the base game of GalCiv III gets a nice refresh.  It's proving difficult because while GalCiv III: Crusade is sold as an "expansion pack" to GalCiv III, under the covers it's more like a sequel.

The screenshot above is just some of the changes to the diplomacy screen.  The underlying code base is very different.

Anyone not upgrading to Crusade is shortchanging themselves.  It doesn't matter how much effort you spend in supporting the base game.  Crusade is just that much better. that much an improvement over something already good.  

This is all very easy to say as a Founder, but it is still true.

Of course since I'm not a Founder, I got to post a

So er... how is this going to help anything? Hasn`t everyone here got Crusade? Although the screenshot was interesting to read.

Except my experience from about two months ago, ordering the combo GCIII and Crusade through Steam--- all I received was Crusade. Unless I missed something new subscribers do not receive the base GCIII.

(btw- I go back to GC on OS/2)

Since Steam made Stardock release Crusade as DLC you have to uninstall it on the 1st screen in Steam (before you click play) if you only want to play the base game.  All other DLC to the base game will remain in effect (if you own them) unless you choose to uninstall them also.

Hmm... So Steam and/or Stardock advertised buy both at a discount, but in reality the customer can only have one or the other (at any given time). Interesting marketing.

It's annoying the way that Steam handles DLC, I agree..  If I ever didn't just play all games with all DLC active all of the time I'd probably complain, but I can never think of a reason not to have the DLC active on pretty much any game.. I'm sure 98% of people are just like me, so Steam doesn't get too many complaints about it..

@Frogboy, I have noticed a significant bump in recent positive reviews for GalCiv 3 (currently sitting at 83%). Do you think this is going to help improve visibility? I hope it get more positive attention in the post-Crusade world.

I've played it a few times and I really hate the tech stealing, its far to easy.

Crusade brings me GalCiv II vibes, mainly because of the AI. I can't think of a better compliment.

Definitely feels like the way to go.
