(Resolved) Clicking lag on desktop after updating to Windows 10 Creators Update

Fences may aswell be abandonware at this point.

Have two end users with the same issue. 3.0.X doesn't work at all. (3.0.0, 3.0.1, 3.0.3, 3.0.5) What do you need from your users to fix the issue?

Opening a support ticket is a waste of time if everyone with the same problem is spilling out onto the forums about it.

This thread's been open since April, no response besides "Just wait for a fix" is kind of unacceptable considering this software is currently being sold broken out of the box

a lot of people who are experiencing the "click lag" problem have a) a multi-monitor configuration or use a display with 1920x1200 pixels resolution.

My display - a Hewlett Packard ZR2440w - also generates 1920x1200 pixels. So maybe the issue is triggered by this typical screen-resolution. It is still weird, that Fences v3.03 works fine with my display. The "lag" issue emerges immediately after upgrading Fences to v3.04 and above.

Hope, this information is useful somehow.

Dual monitor here too, with a 1980x1080 and 1680x1050 setup... but I though the multi monitor thing was known by the devs? It has been commented through various threads multiple times.

Disabling the second monitor on both hardware or software doesnt fix it btw, but maybe some setting on Windows sticks so you have to start clean to really test it.

Hmmm I have a triple 1080p setup. Although I leave the 2 side monitors disabled most of the time. Ill try purging and reinstalling with only one monitor when i find the time.

I have this lag too. I have 2 monitors: BENQ 2430t with 1920x1080 144hz, Samsung T220 1680x1050 60hz.

VERY IMPORTANT THING! I have ObjectDesktop with all apps, when i deleted DeskScapes8, IconPackager, SkinStudio, WindowsBlinds all lags go away! awesome!

I'm on Win 10 pro version 1709 with a Intel HD 4600 integrated on board graphics card and using Fences 3.5.0.3 with the screen res of 1920x1200. No lag here.

For those with a Logitech mouse try turning off the Game Detection and see if it helps.

Sorry. It definitely is frustrating to deal with. I meant to say that in terms of how there doesn't seem to be a 100% fix yet besides "yeah we know you guys are having issues, and it sucks, we're working on it".

Really hoping Fences' development hasn't been put on the back burner indefinitely. This issue stops those who are affected from using it at all efficiently.

+1 - Dual screens Windows 10 and on two separate PCs.

On one of the PCs I power off the monitors overnight, and when I switch them back on I have wait over two minutes until I can actually use the PC. The icons in the fences sit at the top and eventually the slide down into their correct position.

Running fences V3.0.3 on both PCs - If I try later builds it is infinitely worse.

Well decided to take action on this. Here are some of the issues I've been experiencing:

1) icons moving between fences when I change locations

2) screen flashing on several of my office 365 applications

3) office 365 applications hanging

4) very strange multiple windows appearing with Excel - that is, when I move my spreadsheet from full screen there is a shadow behind that doesn't go away . . . .really don't know how to describe this, very strange

I've been fighting with the above for several months, incredibly time consuming, particularly having to move icons back to where they belong every morning.

So, after reading many of the posts in this thread, and possibly related issues, I decided to UNINSTALL fences (windows 10 version 3.05) a few hours ago, and guess what ALL and I mean ALL of the above issues have gone away. Friggin unbelievable!!!

I will continue to see if the issues stay resolved or if issues 2 through 4 come back.

And if I jumped to a conclusion that Fences is the culprit, I'll will repost to this thread and let you all know, including expressing my apologies. But right now, it's looking pretty good.

In our continuing effort to see what is causing some people to see desktop performance issues with Fences 3.05, we have a test build that we would like some to try.

The build and instructions are at:

Per instructions.txt (VERY IMPORTANT TO READ) in the folder, you can unzip anywhere, run "patch_register", then log off/on to have it take effect. The "enable-tests" reg files will purposefully turn off a few features, but, it'll help us narrow things down.

Here are my results:

Fences 3.0.6.28: Same lag.
enable-tests-1.reg: Problem resolved, zero lag.
enable-tests-2.reg: Same lag. Didnt work properly though, it acted as normal with the icons hiding and moving along with its fence, even after waiting or doing a full restart.

But, at least for me, disabling the hiding of icons below the fences limit fixes the lag.

After that I resized all fences so none of them had any scrollbars, which theorically would make the hiding unnecesary, but the performance was as bad as always.

If you need any more tests just let me know.

I just want to point out, I ran the same tests, and got the same results. For me, enable-tests-1.reg seemed to have resolved the issue. I think I'll keep this installed until a stable fix is released, the lag was affecting any home screen click.

Edit: Double click to hide still has it's lag, but I can still do a normal click without delay.

I've been dealing with this for 8+ months...I did everything Stardock said - reinstalls, diagnostics, ran their purge program countless times...

They said there were only like 6-7 people having this problem - clearly, that is not the case.

I'm not holding my breath for a fix anytime soon.

Hello everybody,

i got the same problem with slow performance and clicking issues since i upgraded my pc to a new AMD Ryzen CPU and migrated from Windows 7 to Windows 10 in may 2017.

Just for testing, i upgraded my old w7-system to w10 and voila... the same issues occured.

And now back to topic...

I'd currently tested the modified test build v3.0.6.28 and enabled 'test-A', which result in a smoothly running desktop with no lags.

Same result for "test-B" - however, 'test-C' bring the laggy desktop back.

It seems that running 'test-A' is the fastest solution to bring the desktop up after log-on.

Maybe someone can confirm it...?!

Same as ppaccfh. Tests A and B fixed the lag, and C brings the problem back.
