So someone asked whether there was a gathering point for the community to arrange games and stuff, and I'd been thinking about how a Discord server could be useful for the community, so I went ahead and made one.

What is Discord?

Discord is a free voice/chat app that can either be accessed through your browser or by downloading the desktop app.

Why should I join?

Mostly, it's much more convenient than Steam chat for group chats and has a much more persistent backlog, so messages won't disappear into the ether as much as they do on Steam. It's also not necessary to register an account.

If newer people somehow stumble across it, it might be easier to help bring them into the community.

If enough people use it, it would be easier to see who's online and looking for a game, rather than spamming invites or asking a dozen people. 

Easy access to voice chat without needing to bother with Skype/Teamspeak/whatever (also very optional and probably not that useful).

Drawbacks?

It may take a few minutes of fiddling with the settings to disable enough of the notifications that they're not an annoyance.

Adding another community hub could further fracture an already small community, though we don't exactly have gathering places, except for streams, sometimes.

I can't say I have any expectations for this, but if anyone wants to spread the word* (or tell me this is a terrible idea), feel free. If it ever grows enough for it to be worthwhile, also feel free to pester me to change permissions or add links/channels.
