The Soviet and old Chinese economy are actually great examples of how a command economy doesn't work.
It's a bit more complicated than that. The main issue with a command economy is the brainpower required on top. They need to see and handle an immense amount of detail to pick the right path, and that was impossible for the Soviets and Chinese in the long run. I would actually argue that the planned economies worked well for industrializing both countries, it was what came after that was the problem. (they industrialized in 10-20 years what England used 100+ years to do with Capitalism) The human and ethical cost is another matter though.
Since the Yor are robots and are willing to work for the collective good I guess their socialism style economy would not suffer from all of the same problems but even then they still have no real reason to actually improve or become better beyond the bare minimum needed.
The Yor have one "ultimate equation", and streamlining to get to the solution the fastest possible is their only goal. Their motivation to improve is probably the best there is. We humans tend to get distracted from the main issues a lot
