I don't mind helping you out, but I really don't think its super worth the time. You actually lose quite a bit of time getting a setup that you like, configuring overlays, etc. You can always just do something basic - you could probably get something setup and configured that would work over about 4 hours - but if you are anything like me, you'll probably want to sink a TON of time getting a nice setup with good looking overlays, etc. I've probably dumped maybe 50 hours into that sort of thing over the last couple of years (not terrible, but its sunk time).
The main question you've got to ask yourself is why do you want to stream? If its just to try something out for fun, then sure. A little disposable income and some time and you are good to go. Then you've got to move along to who would watch you and why. As it stands, I probably wouldn't watch you stream, but I'm sure some of our pals would - probably the same pals that watch me stream from time to time as well. For me personally, I enjoy 2 things on stream. High level play with commentary or just entertaining players. Everything else I could give a rip about. And I've never really heard you provide a monolog and that's what you'd need to do. I don't think just streaming games while you play with pals is the best format either. I know some of our pals would tune in for that sort of thing, but I can't think of many streamers that do that on the regular.
I can give you a rough formula that I think will work for most of our pals to give you a head start and get some pals watching, though. Get something super basic setup soon to be able to stream. If you want my help, I'll give it, but only after you try setting things up yourself (I'd rather not be the idiots guide for setting things up and instead just help when you have questions). Then, stream a few basic games here and there. Make sure things are coming through clear, sound levels are good/not annoying, etc. Next, start working a little on monolog. Play a game WITHOUT any voice chat, etc. Start talking - give thoughts about the matchup, comment on why you do this or that. Try to get in the habit of being talkative (your pals will find you annoying if you do this on voice chat later eh
). Being talkative is what makes watching you more entertaining than just spectating a game you are in so I can see the pov of everyone. So... you know... talk.
Then, the final bit that you can do right away, advertise here that you are going to start streaming your ranked placement series and say a specific time. That's a really good place to start as our pals seem to like watching ranked play when I stream anyway.
But to circle back to my initial thought - its worth figuring out why you want to stream in the 1st place. Odds are you aren't going to become the next big thing - so, even if you only have a handful of viewers, why? Sure the idea of thousand of people being into you is cool, but do you still care if its just a few folks. If so, then have fun with it. If you are entertaining or really informative, I'd watch from time to time.
I have people ask me here and there why I'm not streaming as much and the reason is I don't think I'm doing anything all that super interesting currently. If you stream, it might as well be something that is interesting to others, eh.
