Basically a idea i first saw in Warlock: Master of the Arcane, in this game, aside from the main map, there are several smaller maps/planes of existance connected to the main map by portals. These other maps could be vastly different, a desert world, a hellisch world, a world of constant war, etc. and often contained valuablue resources/treasures.
This idea could be cool if translated to galciv: there could be portals/wormholes/anomalies on the map that would lead to pocket universes/alternate dimensions/subspace/whathaveyou. These could be always accesisible or require a certain tech to pass through, or even be a random event (i.e. star explodes and leaves a wormhole, precursor artifact is found and creates a portal). Furthermore pocket universes already exist in the lore so they should be easily explained.
The pocket universes themselves could be wildly different, as the normal rules of spacetime need not apply, and each pocket universe could be unique. Things like sensor range, movement speed, defenses/weapon stats could be affected while inside the pocket universe. There could be alot of radiation hazards inside that would randomly damage your ships. There could be a fortress world or a pirate base inside, or maybe space monsters. Almost anything you could think off could be put inside.
The one drawback i see on this idea is that in the warlock game, having control of these extra worlds had massive benefits that could easily make you overpowered: certain rare resources only spawned inside the other worlds, and there generally was only one entry point which you could easily defend. So, while i find it easy to come up with challenges to be put inside pocket universes, i find it harder to come up with a balanced reward, having planets inside or getting not otherwise acquirable resources or technology from controlling a pocket universe seems abit strong.
What do you think? Is this something that could fit in galciv?
