So, hello folks, i'm quite new to the game and after 3-4 months of stalking this forum i decided to make an account to express my opinions about the game.
Okay, *coughs* i'm not a veteran 4x player, my first 4x game is Civ IV and even then i'm more of a casual rather than hardcore. But this game is IMO, IS THE BEST among 4x games that i've played, it's like the best thing of Civ IV and Civ V melt together, ironically before that two civ games released lol.
Well and i heard Galciv3 is already on alpha stage, so i want to say my opinions about Galciv II
---------------------------
The Good:
+VARIOUS TECH TREES. i haven't seen anything like this before in 4x, this makes playing different race sometimes feels like playing a different 4X, this is awesome
+Simple Rock-Paper-Scissors combat system with 3 different weapons(Civ IV complicated combat system is a BIG letdown for me, Civ V combat is actually good but 1UPT implementation sucks more than i previously thought, where archers shoot further than gatling guns), "tiled" planets, tactical views and the list goes on...
------------------------------
What i don't really like:
-ESPIONAGE, yes I've seen a lot of people complaining about the espionage system here, spies vs spies system is kinda annoying, i end up paying spies only to nullify foreign agents.
I prefer system like in Civ IV, but still with individual spies. My idea is do away the Planetary Espionage, make it Race-wide only, more spies means faster data collection("infiltration level" goes up), and after our espionage reach certain "infiltration level"(low, medium, etc), we can perform sabotage missions with success chance depends on how deep we infiltrate that certain race(failure doesn't always means that your spy will be discovered though, but there's chance for that). If we remove our spies from that race, our "infiltration level" to them would go down slowly. Spies can also perform expensive and long counter-espionage missions to remove all discovered spies and greatly reduce infiltration levels, with small-to-moderate chance to catch extra foreign spies.
-IMPROVEMENT UPGRADE SYSTEM. Instead of building Banks from the ground up, make it so you must upgrade Trade Centers. Upgrading buildings tile per tile is too much work though, to cope with this, we can add "Upgrade All Buildings(or type)", and "Terraform all Tiles" in planet management screen.
-EXTREME PLANETS. I never knew that Purple Space Robots also breathe Oxygen and can only live on Carbon-based Ecosystems. Why not make different race inhabit different kind of planet? it's more realistic and will reduce the need to rush everything early just to get more planets. I prefer colonization mechanics like Stars! where every race have preference on Gravity, Temperature, Radiation Levels, etc. Then we can research terraforming and colonization techs to make Alien planets less hostile to us.
-PRODUCTION SLIDER AND FOCUS. Really, these things are kinda redundant, just use 3 sliders. Problem with social-military split? Rather than industry points, make factories produce both MPs and SPs as different modifiers, that way theoretically we can reach 300% of total production and research. Sounds OP? nope, because that way your bank account will also be drained 300% faster.
Honestly, actually i prefer no sliders at all, but it seems that it's one of the core mechanics that most players here like, so yeah. Also, maybe race like Torians should include percentage of populations into their research buildings modifier, since their research facilities are Schools.
-Inherent abilities, Political Parties, Super Abilities, and Tech Trees. These things are kinda redundant in some aspects, why not just use different tech trees? For example, instead of giving The Terrans inherent ability to Diplomacy, why not just give Diplomacy-Booster in their tree? Instead of giving Altarians inherent Research points, just give them Better Labs in their tree. the case is also the same with Political Parties, why not just give more Customization Points?
For Super Abilities, i only tolerate Manipulator, Warrior, Breeder, and Isolationist. Super Hive is simply cheaper factories and better range, The Yor already have different kind of factories and farms in their trees, why not just make Thalan Factories cheaper in their Tree? and the rest is kinda lame.
-Add more starting option(disable anomalies etc) and make the "alternative starts" like accelerated start available for all races.
-Please improve Global Management Screens so we can more easily manage planets and starships, add Galcivopedia, and maybe Civics system like in Alpha Centauri/Civ IV. AND HEXES. Also, The Interface is kinda cumbersome.
----------------------------
FYI i play with APT2 mod mostly, because i heard that this mod takes the more balanced tech tree out of DA and tweak them to fit TA unique tech trees.
Ok, that's my introduction and some rants, please don't turn this thread into endless flame war. Night(yes it's night over here), nice to meet y'all
