Gal Civ2 on a Kindle Fire or Nook

Hi folks, my wife is going to get me a Kindle Fire for Christmas.  Can I load and play Gal Civ 2 on either device?  I've been told they are basically a mini computer.  I don't want to go for a $400 IPad, so at $150-$200, a Kindle Fire HD looks like the best bet.  The key is...can I use it for Gal Civ 2?

You cannot use a Kindle Fire or iPad as they do not run Windows applications.

You need a Windows based computer for GalCiv II.  Please be aware that a Windows RT based tablet would also NOT run GalCiv II.

So if I follow you, your recommending I simply get a laptop that runs windows.  A Kindle, Nook, IPad, etc. won't work?

As well as a Windows-based laptop, you should also be looking for a minimum screen resolution of 1024x768, else the interface just won't fit on the screen.  You may also want to check out these system requirements:

Windows XP or Windows Vista on a 1 GHz PC with a DirectX 9 capable video card, at least 64MB of video memory. Recommend 1 gigabyte of total system memory.

Ok, I heard an ad on ESPN radio yesterday.  Its for "gotomypc.com." You buy this app, load it on your main computer, then access the website from your smart phone, IPad, Kindle , etc. and you run your actual computer from remote.  According to the website, it will run ANY program installed from your computer as it is simply a relay device.  Using this, we can access GalCiv2 from anywhere.  I am going to try this when I get my Kindle for Christmas.  Any comments?  Sounds perfect.

That's really only designed for basic desktop access.  I have no idea if it would be able to run games, but the problems you're likely to run into there are bandwidth, input lag, missing controls and an inability to see all of the interface clearly.

If you want to be able to play GalCiv 2 anywhere my suggestion would be to compromise and get/build a portable PC that you can easily take with you and hook up to a TV.  I don't know if that would be within your immediate budget, but it would be a lot more playable that way.
