People seem to go out of their way to hate on bronies. There are some fans who do try to shove it in people's faces, but they're a minority
It's very similar to how anime fans were treated in the mid-90s. Maybe it's where I'm coming from that makes me tolerant of the ponies, and the fanart's interesting to look at.
- then again, I'm the sort who believes in keeping any fandoms I have in the closet, with all the other scary beasts.
