Hi, new to the series, couple questions!

i'm using Galciv 2 ultimate Edition V2.03

Force Ai to use max cpu

i have searched and haven't found any official word on what this is?

Also in dread lords, i'm on the first campaign mission and I'm not able to trade, what do I need for that?

Also what is approval for? I know what it means, but i dont' seem to have any consquences setting it to 50% rating, compared to having like a 90% rating.

Finally, population; what is it good for? i know you can load them up into transports; and i know the higher number the more social, research, military ranks you get; but whats better? farming or just building say another production falicity specifically for a social, research, military stat.

Loving the game so far, i just got witcher 2, starcraft 2, and this game; and i'm currently playing this more then the others. Oh i also got X3; but damn that game is complicated lol.

EDIT: Also is there an option to keep open the ship/planet list on the left on the main screen. it turns off after every turn and i have to re-click it. i'm talking about the far left button at the bottom; along with other buttons like going to foreign affairs, and checking out your taxes. Hopefully that made sense.

It enables some extra AI code which is more CPU hungry than the default. It involves things like making the AI design ships a bit more intelligently, and making it plan further ahead.

Many technologies are restricted and unavailable during the campaign; more will become available for research in later missions. If you want everything available, check out a regular sandbox game.

Approval chiefly affects population growth (plus some other things). Very high approval makes it grow faster, while low approval will make it grow slower or even shrink.

Tax income.

Oh and i still dont' get what life support is for.

It determines the maximum distance your ships are allowed to roam from your planets or starbases.

Also, it seems counterintuitive, but population does not affect your social/military/research output (the number of symbols at the top of the planet viewscreen). These are affected by the number of production/research buildings you have on the planet. In other words, it's theoretically possible to have a ghost planet (upgrade any cargo hull into a colony ship and colonize a planet; you'll have 0.00 population because there were no colonists in that ship) with astronomical production or research output (if you have enough buildings). The maintenance costs would be really high though and you'd have no population to tax, so I can't imagine why you'd want to

Afaik there is no way to keep the ship list open. But why would you need to have that open all the time?

Regarding approval, as Kryo said it affects your population growth (essential for your tax income). In addition, once you move on to a more advanced government type, you should have sufficient approval to win the elections so you benefit from the bonus associated with your party.

You mentioned the choice between farms or production / research facilities.
You have to strike the right balance between the two:

- farms + approval buildings, or economical buildings: to get your economy in the green. Note that it's often best to add approval buildings once you build farms as increasing the population on your planet can have drastic effects on morale (approval). There's plenty of discussion whether farms + approval is better or simply adding economical buildings.

- production and research facilities: to build both military and non-military ships, as well as research new technologies. Though all of that costs money.
