Can't go to war with Drengin.

Impossible to break team

Somehow I ended up in a team with the Drengin. I want to attack them but cannot because I am told I have to break my alliance with them before I can attack. In the foreign relations screen I do not get the option to leave the alliance. Every time Drengin go to war with someone they ask for my help and tell me if I say no our alliance will end but it does not even though I've chosen "no" twice now. I can't even offer to go to war with them to another race as the option does not appear.

What do I do? I am playing Gold edition.

Well, the question is whether you have

a. Team- or

b. Ally-

status with them? What does the Foreign Policy-screen tell you?

a. is decided in the setup, it is irreversibly, and in the Foreign Policy screen there should be an unclickable "Trade Embargo" box.

b. appears as "Break Alliance" there.

It says team. I don't know how they were setup to be my teammate but I'll start over I guess. :/

Does anyone know why relations are randomly set to Team like this? There must be twelve or more "Why am I a teammate" threads where someone complains about it, but I've never heard why it happens. I know if you set starting relations with a race for one game, you'll have to change them the next time you start, but in most of these "Team" incidents reported, it doesn't sound like the poster had ever set relations to Team before. Could it have something to do with frequently being on a team in the campaigns?
