That is the price for the 16 gb wifi... the 64gb wifi is 699.  The 64 gb 3g+wifi is 829.  for a good comarison though

the asus eee is currently 450 with full windows  7 operating system. Since its 32 gb I'll compare it to the 32 GB model of Ipad which is currently 600 wifi and 729 for 3g+wifi.  thats a 33% price increase for a system that doesnt even have a full operating system..   plus why pay and extra 129 for the 3g that you can hardly even get with that awesome at&t service.

also there is the lenoveo idea pad for 499 the has 250 gb storage and a 1.66 ghz procesoor and a 10.1 inch display and wireless n. and yes its multitouch as is the asus eee.

I'm just curious... what purpose does the iPad serve? I mean, ideally, what is it designed for?

I know that, reread what I posted...

I've had some experience with touchscreen laptops mainly HP and I was not impressed, it felt like i need to work more to write with a stylus on the HP than on an actual notebook with pen and paper, the battery never reached it advertised capacity of 3 hours even though the screen was at 50% brightness and even with a spare battery I still had to make sure I sit next to a power outlet every where I go. The thing that really pissed me off was getting the blue screen of doom in the middle of lecture, not to mention that it got really hot and was heavy.

The only thing that I liked was the ability to to open 2 windows side by side.

@ZehDon I don't know it really depend on the user, for me I intend to use it for Uni, I already scan all of my lecture notes and I already download all the books I need instead of buying them for 50$ each so I mainly intend to use it as a portable library. I fully expect that by the time I'll get one there will be 3rd party apps to turn the iPad into a true "notebook" so I'll definitely get on of those also. I also have a huge eBook library that I collected over the years so reading them on a screen bigger than my iPhone would be nice.

Other than that, the rest (web surfing, games, movies and music) is just a bonus.

My friend on the other hand want to get it just for the SketchBook pro app and some other artsy apps (I don't get artists), according to him buying a portable electronic sketch pad will cost him half as much a 32g Wi-Fi iPad you he would need to connect it to a computer.

As I was saying, it can fill different needs, it's not a wonder device I wouldn't call it magical (than again unlike some other people who do call it magical I never held it) and there is a good chance that if you are a veteran computer user a full pledge laptop will be more suited for you, but than again it might not. My advice is to sit and look what apps are out for it and if you could make use of them and then decide whether it's worth buying or not.

I disagree. Netbooks have USB and Firewire ports along with other input and out put devices. The Ipad does not.

Netbooks are actually computers capable of running real operating systems. While they can't process as much as a full fledged lalptop, they're actually useful, unlike the iPad that can't do anything. It's moving in the wrong direction. You don't take a weak little device like a blackberry, an mp3 player, or a phone and move up to a powerful handheld computer. The correct way to achieve that goal is to take a computer, turn it into a laptop, and continue making it smaller and smaller as the technology develops. The iPad is a lame attempt by Apple to say: "Hey, look at us! We've achieved the future!" when they have done nothing of the sort.

I don't really agree with that. Apple is just as bad as Microsoft. Microsoft is an annoying monopoly that makes the occasional great product. Apple just kind of uses the somewhat justifiable anti-Microsoft sentiment to their advantage to propel their crappy products into the public spotlight. Also, our journey to the ultimate portable computer will be complete when we make watches that project keyboards onto any flat surfaces along with three dimensional monitors that come out of the watch face. Or we could just figure out how nerves interface with out brain and just implant computers in our brains

The iPad isn't small enough to fit in your pocket, so it would be about as easy to carry around a laptop/netbook that would do everything the iPad would do for you and more.

I spend all my time on my laptop and phone, either texting away, or doing coursework, and as I am at university, I spend 8 hours a day at least on my laptop doing coursework, the only break I get from my laptop is either I am going out, or reading a book. Why do I need an Ipad to read a book? I have been looking at a screen for at least 8 hours ( + TV screen), do I really need to read a book from another LCD screen? What the hell is wrong with a book made with paper?

I like the iPod, but why the hell add a camra to it? Do I need another camera? Havent I already got a camera, and a camera in built into my phone, having a camera in my ipod is pointless.
