Demigod is mostly about HP stacking, and selecting the right demigod counters. I would force all newbies to pick erebus and play just erebus until they got good, then UB, then OAK, then ROOK. Rook is a counter to UB provided you have the right team-demigod mates, it always depends on what the matchup is demigod is mostly about picking the right demigods vs what your opponents team has chosen, you can predict the outcomes of games a good percent of the time by just looking at who chose what demigods to have on their team vs the other team.
If I had my way I would get rid of or nerf the egregious +hp favor items, or restrict some favor items (like blood of the fallen) from certain demigods having them (UB, Erebus and just maybe oak). Demigod is mostly about memorizing patterns and taking advantage of gaps in your teams perception (i.e. if you're fighting by enemy locked flags, and the other team realizes you are low on health someone will teleport in and gank, if you aren't aware of how dangerous the situation is you're going to do stupid shit)
Developing an awareness of what is dangerous to do (fighting by locked flags and tp ganking) take a while to build up until you automatically start predict what is the next step of what you should be doing. You build up flow in demigod by realizing, predicting what the other team is doing and by knowing when to pull back/regroup and stick together. It's about knowing what you can get away with when you predict correctly the whereabouts of the demigods on the map.
