Before I started playing Demigod, I started to read about the two classes ( Assassin and General ). I used to think that generals were DGs that had very powerfull minions and just sat back, giving orders and only fighting when they had to. It seems I was wrong. Still, I liked the ideea about a fairly weak general (in terms of fighting) but that had very powerful minions. So here goes.
Demigod: Zul (General, light)
Appearance:
He is a magician, about the same hight as Regulus, maybe a bit taller. He wears the classical magician robe and hood. The outfit has red and white shades. None of his skin is actually visible, he wears gloves and the hood covers his face, only his two blue gloing eyes can be seen. He holds a very shiny redish sword in his right hand.
Summary:
Zul is not a very good fighter. His strenght lies in his powerful minions. He also has a few tricks to escape conflict whenever he is loosing, giving him a high survivability and a very good support role. He also has a fire spirit that looks a bit like a phoenix bird flying in circles around him. The fire spirit will fire independently at enemies, for little damage, but setting them (for a limited period of time) on fire. Only a limited number of fires may be maintained by the spirit at a time. The fire spirit will only fire on enemies who are NOT on fire (meaning that each time it sets an enemy on fire, it will target another one). My purpose was to create a DG that relies heavily on his minions but that he can also temporarily hold his own ground when he needs to. People will tend to underestimate him because of his low health and damage output, and that will be the fatal mistake.
Strengths:
-Very powerfull minions
-High survivability because of his abilities
Weaknesses:
-Weak meele fighter
-Without minions, very bad at holding the line without other team mates around
Abilities:
Detonate(active): This ability targets one of Zul's minions. Upon activation, the targeted minion will explode and toss magma everywhere (range is roughly the same as oaks Surg of Faith), dealing Aoe damage of 50/100/150/200 damage for every second that the eneme DG is walking on the magma, and also reducing enemy movement and attack speed by 5%/10%/20%/25% . Lasts 6 seconds. Mana cost is low, casting is instantaneous, cooldown is 3 seconds.
Gaze of Suffering(active): Zul starts staring intensly at another demigod, filling him/her with all his past suffering and horrible memories. During this process both Zul and his target are immobile. This power drains Zul's mana at a moderate - high rate. Also, it can be interrupted if Zul gets hit a couple of times. May be upgraded to slowly drain health ( at higher levels ). The range is roughly equal to that of Torch Bearer's Fireball. Casting is intantaneous, cooldown is 7 seconds.
Fire Frenzy(active): Zul's fire spirit channels it's powers into Zul's minions increasing their attack damage, and giving them a 10%/15%/20%/25% chance to set their targets on fire. Zul is immobilised during this time, since he cannot do anything while the fire spirit is busy doing something else. This power drains mana at a moderate-high rate and may be interrupted if Zul gets hit a couple of times. After this power is finished, the fire spirit will be gone for 7 seconds, so that Zul cannot use any abilities during this time, including the summoning ability of the Blessing of Zar'Sarral power. Cast time is 1 second, mana cost is high, cooldown is 10 seconds.
Avatar of Destruction(active): Zul's sword and the fire spirit merge. Both Zul and his sword become engulfed in flames. All of his minions souls are harvested (his minions die) to power this ability. This is the only time Zul can actually efficiently fight on his own. In this form, he has a base increase of attack speed, attack damage, movement speed, armor and health. For every soul harvested from his minions, any one of those stats is (randomly) increased. While in this form , both his health and mana are starting to drain at a relatively high pace. The second upgrade to this power will slightly reduce the rate at which health and mana is drained but not by much, and also grant invurnerability for the first 3 seconds that Zul is in this form ( but health will still be drained during this time ). The third upgrade to this power will further slightly decrease the rate of health / mana drain grant 5 second invuln and create an attack speed and movement speed aura ( just a slight increase ). The Avatar of Destruction cannot be stopped, it will continue to remain active untill Zul's health or mana is at near zero, then it will stop. In this form, none of Zul's abilities can be used. Refresh rate is 60 seconds, casting time is 2 seconds during which Zul shrieks and lights up, becoming very visible.
Blessing of Zar'Sarral(passive): Zul empowers his sword for a slight increase in damage and the ability to create minions. Every time the sword strikes a grunt, or an enemy minion, that target is "blessed". Which means that, upon death it will turn into a Vulcano Child ( Zul's minion ). These minions look like magmatic blobs with a bit of rock in them. There are 2 types of minions that can be (randomly) summoned this way. Ranged or melee. Both of them have high damage output and health, being Zul's main defense, damage dealing method, lane holding method, etc. Further upgrades to this power slightly increase Zul's sword damage (static numbers, not percentage based), increases the maximum minion number to a maximum of 10, and slightly increases their damage every time.
Fuel for the Fire (passive): The fire spirit uses nearby fires that are burning enemies to increase the power of Zul's Minions. Each fire will very slightly increase a minion's attack speed. Also, this power increases the number of fires that the spirit can maintain, at a time. As this power is upgraded the number of maximum fires are increased as is the damage that the fire does to the enemy and the duration that the fire lasts.
Death will have to wait(passive): This power is obtained at higher levels. Just when Zul recieves a killing blow, the fire spirit protects him. In an instant, the souls of his minions are harvested and the fire spirit explodes in a shockwave. This shockwave knocks back and stuns all enemies ( doing no damage ). ALL Demigods (even friendly) are stunned for 2 seconds, and minions are stunned for 5. The next upgrade for this power will increase Zul's movement speed for a short time by 30%, increase the stun duration by 1.5 seconds and the area of effect of the shockwave. After the shockwave, the fire spirit will be gone for 7 seconds, not allowing certain powers to be active or cast, just like what happens in Fire Frenzy.
Mana Burn(passive): When enemies that have mana are set on fire, their mana is slowly drained and given to Zul. The next 3 levels of Mana Burn will increase the rate of mana drain. The next and last level will give Zul a mana regeneration aura, which will get stronger with every burning enemy ( the aura does not affect Zul ).
Ok, well, this is my demigod. Since this is my first DG ideea, I don't know how balanced he is......if he is too strong in some places, or too useless in others, please let me know, and I shall make the appropriate changes. I also have a background for him, that explains everything. Why he sucks at combat, what is that fire spirit, why is he a light general, although he is very destructive, why his minions have something to do with vulcanoes, why he has a sword and not a mage staff and what is with that Gaze of Suffering etc. I will write the background later, once I sure that my ideea does not completly suck beyond repair. I didn't want to spend a big effort writing something if the demigod as a whole had no place in the game. So.... I await your feedback
Edit: Ok, as promised, here is the story.
The island of Northell in the icy northen seas was a relatively new piece of land. It was created when a huge underwater vulcano exploded and gave shape to the whole island. After that the vulcano remained dormant for centuries while life developed and flurished on Northell.
After that, viking colonists from the frozen mainland who were trying to expand their teritory arrived on the island. Although Northell was far from the warmth of the Ecuator, the magma beneath the vulcano kept the island and the surrounding waters relatively warm so that Northell was almos tropical. The settlers were delighted for the have never before seen so much abundance in resources food and space. They named the vulcano Zar'Sarral (the life giver, in ancient languages).
Decades past, and the vikings grew into a thriving colony. However, they were starting to drain all of the islands resources. Soon they divided into 7 warclans fighting over what little remained. The clans were separated by the Zar'Sarral Vulcano which was in the island's center, only being able to attack themselves by going around the vulcano. Magic was looked down on, in these times. They thought of it as "a weak woman's means of defending herself against a true warrior". Anyone who used magic was thought of as pathetic.
Sorack, the ruler of the most powerfull warclan had a son named Zul. Although his birth gave his father much joy, that joy was quickly erased. The child possesed powerfull magical abilities which became more obvious as he grew. The other rulers laughed at this, thinking that Zul having magic powers meant that his father was a weakling. As such they all started attacking Sorack's clan thinking that it's leader is weak.
Even though Sorack's clan was the most powerfull, it could not hold the raids of the other 6 clans. Sorack felt like something had to be done at the root of the problem. Without hesitation he decided to do something simbolic that proved to everyone what a strong leader he is. He took his son to the peak of Zar'Sarral telling him that he wished to show him something. Once at the crater he told Zul to look down and see something amazing. As Zul turned his back, his father took his sword and thrusted it through Zul's chest. He started falling in the vulcano's dark center, his father's sword in his chest, his face in shock, not believing his own father could betray him like this. However, it worked. The other clans stopped attacking, fear striking into their hearts as soon as they heard what Sorack could do to his own son.
Years have passed. Soracks clan had taken over the whole island in a wave of tyrrany. As the victory celebrations were under way with Sorack the Tyrant observing the ground suddenly started shaking. Suddenly, the vulcano, dormant for hundreds of years vionently exploded, throwing blobs of magma everywhere. People started to run in panic as the blobs started to somehow move and consume people and shoot droplets of magma. Sorack tried to run towards his throneroom. Once he opened his doors, he could not believe his eyes. Zul was back, wielding the sword that was once stuck in his chest, and a strange ball of fire, that looked like a phoenix circled around Zul's head.
"Zul!! I thought you were dead... how did you..."
"Silence you worm! The only reason I am alive is because of this fire spirit. The essence, life and will of the vulcano. He does not like what you have done to his beautifull island. He decided to purge all humans from he island and start over. He saw in me, the harbinger of the islands rebirth. Now, father.....look into my eyes...see.....feel..all the pain you've caused me"
Zul stared into his father's eyes, filling him with all his pain, pain of betrayal. Sorack, who has never cried before, started weeping incontrolably. His mortal mind could not bare all of the suffering, he was frozen in place. Hours went by, as the Vulcano children decimated all the human population, Zul kept staring into his father's eyes. Then he stopped and thrusted his sword thorugh his father's heart. One more tear went down Sorack's cheek and he said "Thank you for the release of death. I am sorry for what I have done...". Then his eyes closed, and he passed away.
Zul started talking to the fire spirit.
"What should I do know. I regret having to kill everyone. It is not like me, I never would have wanted to do such a thing. I don't know what came over me".
"It was me, I took control of you, I told you, you were the instrument of my will. Now you are free to redeem yourself if you like".
"How do I do that?".
"Stay with me on this island, protect it's wildlife from human corruption for as long as you deem necessary to redeem yourself".
And so, Zul remained the guardian of Northell. The northend island was never disturbed by humans again.
