I know you understood my comment was in jest, but I still want to apologize. I didn't know it was that bad
LOL, you shouldnt apologize, and dont feel bad. Its cool
What were the surrounding circumstances here? If the cop had riot gear on (shield), then that would mean it was during a riot. There are several instances in which lethal force can be authorized in a riot. Participating in and stopping an escalated riot are very dangerous things, and I would give the teenager no sympathy as he's not "innocent". However... if a cop was just randomly walking around in riot gear and it was a lone kid who threw a rock at him.. that's a different story.
What happened exactly:
There was a riot. Hooligans everywhere, burning, destroying, throwing molotov bombs, breaking things, and generally almost a war zone. Total chaos.
- A 12 year old kid, who didnt participate in this riot, threw 2 small rocks he found in the ruble in a policeman. The policeman was in the special team called M.A.T. (specially equiped and trained police unit, to deal with riots specifically).
- This happened somewhat away from the "chaos" situation I described, not too far, not too close.
- The kid was a boy who thought it was funny to mock the policeman, and certainly didnt even have enough strength to hurt him, even if he wanted to (which he didnt).
- Policeman armed with a shield, a glob, bulletproof vest and a 9mm gun.
- 1 rock hit helmet, then other hit his shield. He didnt feel a thing.
The normal thing that this policeman could do, is try to scare away this spoiled child, but certainly not attack him.
What happened next?
- The policeman draws his gun, and shoots in the air. The kid stays where he is unafraid, but doesnt throw rocks or anything. Then, immediately, lowers his shield, and looks at the kid with exreme anger, aims, and shoots at the poor kid.
- Kid drops on the ground, policeman turns away and continuing his "job". The kid died after a few minutes.
The whole event was recorded on camera, and it is NOT the only time this sort of thing happens. Cops usually pick the weakest people in riots, and beat the hell out of them. A few more people have died that way.
The policeman didnt go to jail, but simply was removed from the police unit, taking the position of a "simple cop".
Abuse of power FTW /sarcasm.
A 17 year old girl who was passing by a street, that was happening a similarly chaotic riot than the one I described above, was cornered by 3 cops, and beat up until she passed out unconscious. She was admited to the hospital, with serious injuries, severe head trauma, and a few broken bones.
Greek cops: "Why deal with the trouble makers that can harm us? They throw molotovs and are really dangerous. Lets just teach them a lesson by murdering and beating innocent people. That will make them think twice of starting a riot the next time, ha."
(thats how they think. Clever, clever and cruel.)
