Way to run the game without having to install it - not a dumb as you might think!

Hi all,

This is, I think, a growing problem for many people like myself you travel a great deal, yet still want to play great games on a laptop.

More and more laptops supplied by companies are "locked-down", as mine is and I have only Power User authorization and am not allowed to install anything on the laptop.

I have a small collection of games and programs that I have through trial and error and through the cooperation of a few game companies willing to make a customized file for me, been able to run without having had to run the installer program. Edit: I would like to point out that I am *NOT* talking about piracy of any kind. I owns every single game that I have successfully figured out how to do this with. Yes, I supposed this could mean that there is the potential for abuse - but the honor system is the only way to really cope with such things. I don't share my discoveries with anyone and I wouldn't even identify the companies who have been kind enough to help me out with this sort of issue.

In general, I would encourage companies to make their game installations completely encapsulated within a single directory with no modifications to the Registry, etc.

But the more important issue is can GalCiv II UE be configured in sucha way as to do this?

With all of the graphics, etc. I was afraid to even try it until I asked here. Wow, Kudos to the devs for making this game the right way!

WHen I try to run SDactivate.exe, nothing happens. PLease advise

UPDATE:

So each of the games runs without having to run SDactivate.exe. But Twilight complains that DreadLords and DA are not installed. DA complains that DL is not installed. But they run. A bit confusing, and I'm not sure what problems may arise as a result of this....

No 'problems' per say, but the issue is you don't have DL registered and updated, so DA complains, and DA is also not registered, hence Twilight complains.

To run the games correctly, and updated I might add, you must register them using Impulse, which will then also allow you to update each part of the game.

Hmm. Okay.

I thought the Ultimate was completely up-to-date with what was installed from the DVD.

However, I will use Impulse and see if I can get this done up properly.

EDIT: Ah. Well I won't be using Impulse as it needs to be installed (see my original post) so I will just have to make do with this as is while I am traveling.
