Newbie Post: Colonizing/Terraforming Class 0 worlds

Hello all,

I admit fully to being a complete and total newbie when it comes to GalCiv II.  I have been plugging along at technologies but being Terran, I started with all of 2 habitable worlds.  Most of the other worlds I've seen are Class 0.  However, my opponents seem to keep cropping up on new worlds that are suddenly no longer Class 0!  Is it possible to establish colonies on these rocks?  Does some sort of terraforming/Genesis Torpedo need to be used?  Or is the computer cheating?

Short version: Nope.

Long version: Nope, there isn't any way to terraform a class 0. Sometimes when you're zoomed out, a class 1 or class 2 looks like a class 0, though.

And the AI doesn't cheat about things like that.

Keep in mind that there are certain events in game that can change class 0 planets into habitable planets. But you will get a pop-up event explaining this.

Other than that, check your settings when you star the game. Make sure that Habitable planet population is at least normal (as an example). Also, create a couple of survey ships early and set them to auto explore so you can find all of the habitable planets early on.

Be careful about your choices though. I personally hold off on any planet below 4 because I don't get much bang for my buck out of them. Look for your higher planets like 8-9. And if you see one that is 12 or higher, and habitable by your civ, do anything you can to get it.

Just a note: some users that installed the release version over the beta have reported such behavior. If you had the beta, but did not follow the directions in this post you probably have a botched install.

Indeed, in my current game, halfway trough i noticed that all my other three class 0 planets suddenly became class 4, i must have ignored that popup msg or something lol.
With the altarian biosphere thing, plus full terraforming, i now have five class 16 planets around my home star
