I'm new to the game, and trying to learn some of the basics as well as advanced techniques. One of my qualms that I'm trying to figure out, is upgrading ships. It seems to be simple enough, but one thing bothers me. Whenever I click "Upgrade" on an existing ship type, I get brought to the upgrade screen, except all its functional, but not cosmetic, parts are stripped.

Not much of an upgrade when you have to replace all the missing parts. Even moreso when you're not given a chance to see what parts the ship has. When upgrading/customizing a ship, is it possible to be brought to the screen with the parts left on the ship and removing them manually rather than automatically?
