Opponent AI intelligence...

I usually do ctrl-N a few times to get a map I like. Because of that I usually go in the foreign policy screen under misc and find out the AI level there.

This game I put my difficulty level was at challenging. When I looked in on it I see it at INTELIGENT,

I never heard of inteligent, can anybody help me out on this one?

This is how overall difficulty translates on a per AI basis from the Wiki.

* Cakewalk = 15 (Fool)
* Easy = 20 (Dunce)
* Simple = 30 (Beginner)
* Beginner = 40 (Sub-Normal)
* Normal = 50 (Normal)
* Challenging = 65 (Bright)
* Tough = 80 (Intelligent) *Full AI capability from here on*
* Painful = 85 (Gifted)
* Crippling = 95 Genius)
* Masochistic = 100 (Incredible)
* Obscene = 120 (Godlike)
* Suicidal = 150 (Ultimate)

The difficulty level does correlate with the intelligence settings for the AIs, but as shown by DethAdder the AI intelligence levels use a different naming scheme.

All the difficulty levels before Tough are in some way handicapped. They lose advanced scripts and get severe economic penalties. Once you get to Tough, they are playing with no handicaps relative to you and with all their settings maxed. After that, they get stats bonuses to economy, production, research, etc. After Tough, they start to cheat a bit.

I'm presuming you've got the randomizer set for AI intelligence. Otherwise, you wouldn't be seeing AIs set to "Intelligent" on the Challenging difficulty level.

DL or DA?

in DL i have seen the difficulty level set at obscene after putting the Drengin on Godlike. then after starting a game and comming back to the menue it said the difficulty was masochistic. I clicked on the Drengin, they were still set to godlike and immediately the difficulty changed from masochistic to obscene, by itself!

I play dark Avator. I never use the randomizer for the AI only for the opponents.

So at intelligent I have no way of knowing what my difficlty level is?

One thing is for sure I've always played at Normal, I am certainly being pushed around a whole lot
